Poetry and Rhymes in Bigger

Post by Dorla » Thu Jan 24, 2008 2:36 pm

Are these similar to the ones in Little Hearts or are the children introduced to a more traditional approach to poetry and rhymes?
Just looking ahead and wondering...

Dorla,

In the "Beyond..." and "Bigger..." guides we use poetry from classic poets. You'll read poetry from Emerson, Longfellow, Wordsworth, Stoddard, Christina Rosetti, Robert Louis Stevenson, John Greenleaf Whittier and on and on. You get the idea. These are classic poems from wonderful poets.

We hope you'll enjoy them as much as we have! Poetry is one of my kiddos favorite times of the day.

Blessings,
Carrie

A big thumbs up for poetry in Bigger! We are right now doing a poem by RObert Louis Stevenson called "Marching Song". I love how each week's poem correlates with the history topic, and the poetry lesson is simple-reading the poem aloud, BRIEF dicussion of things like what rhyming pattern is in the poem, and using the poem or part of it for copywork. My girls enjoy this very much :D
