Re: Bible Selection

Here are my suggestions: 1. Determine what translation you want. 2. Look for 10-14pt font, but check the Bible size to make sure it is still portable! 3. Consider design, maps, tables, etc. 4. Buy tabs to mark the first page of each book. The ones that color coffee the second tend to be easiest to u...

Re: High School Vocabulary

My understanding is that vocabulary can be a part of English, it isn't absolutely necessary to be formally included. We have only done the LA in WG, and we will be using a local class for WH, so I am not an expert. I looked at the common core standards (which I know are controversial, but contain wh...

Thankful for HOD

We recently returned from a trip to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial (and Custer State Park). Our extended family was impressed with what my kids knew, especially while we were at Mount Rushmore. And I was happy to see that some of the books used by HOD were for sale at Crazy Horse. It was co...

Re: Grammar Placement

Level 2 is what HOD recommends for the average student in Bigger, including most third graders/8 year old. I would only do Level 3 in Bigger with a child that is at least fourth grade.

Re: Help with scheduling out our day

I have somewhat similar aged children, with my oldest starting WH this week and my youngest on Unit 25 of LHFHG. I will admit I am not perfect at checking my oldest's work. I do make her bring me her work as she completes it, and I do take a few notes on things. But, I have not gone back and convert...

Re: MTMM economics for High School

With LD, he would likely have an IEP if he was in public school. So, I would start with what is in the MtMM guide and see how much time is spent on economics. Although the materials aren't "high school level," with a LD, that would be a common accomodation for an IEP. Then, decide how much more time...

I agree with Larissa. RtR times per box: Left side of plans: Reading About History (I): 30-35 min. Storytime (T/I): 15-20 min. History Project (S): 20 min. Rotating Box (I - Research, Geography, Timeline, and Shakespeare): 20 min. Longer on the Shakespeare Day Independent History (I): 10-15 min. Lon...

Re: Questions about pacing Rod & Staff English for combined students

Do you think he can handle adding 2 more days of of R&S a week? If so, I would get through Level 3 ASAP (not doing more than 4 days a week though!). Then, start Level 4 that way. But, as you may have noticed, Level 4 gets hard with the diagramming. So, when you get to that, slow down as needed. Alth...

Re: How to move forward with a young advanced reader?

One option for books for her might be to use some of the supplemental books and then DITHOR 2 and 3. When she gets done with 3, if she is still young, maybe use some of the storytime books from Beyond for her for DITHOR. Although all of the DITHOR books are amazing, they do increase in maturity and ...

Re: Planning Ahead (coming from Preparing)

There are two places for vocabulary in CtC. The first is science five questions. Many units have them define a word or two. The only challenge is that these are science terms, and they often aren't in children's dictionaries (we own two that have most of the words in Bigger and Preparing, but they d...

Re: Heart of Reading Placement

I would do the 2/3 workbook. I don't start 4/5 until at least CtC. As for bookpack, Stormy is in the 4/5G book pack. It is a reading level 5.2, and more than half of the 4/5G books are easier reading level. So if she is doing okay with Stormy, I would do the 4/5G pack. (If you are ordering from HOD,...

Re: Help! We’re super behind on BLHFHG!

Remember that there is no behind in homeschooling! I would just keep going unless your child is already 8. There are MANY that use the guides at the oldest age of the guide. Also, consider why you are so behind in the guide. Have you had to deal with a lot of illness or emergencies? Or, are you "too...

Re: Can a gifted 12 year old handle WG

My oldest started WG at 13. I will say the workload is a lot! I don't think it is necessarily going to be too difficult, except maybe logic and/or literature. Devotional probably would not necessarily be appropriate either for a 12. So I definely wouldn't expect the full guide at full speed at 12.

Re: Revival to Revolution: Exploration Education-Need clarificaiton

I have one in Rev2Rev and one in WG currently. In WG, they get physical science again. Carrie still does not focus on memorization, but they do have a lot of written work as well as labs in the integrated physics and chemistry course. My kids do complete the vocabulary and review quizzes for EE, but...

Re: Online Planners vs Paper Planners

For my daughter currently in WG, I have a checklist we use for each unit. It is actually one page for all four kids. The boxes are big enough that I can jot down anything that is a real grade (much is just marked completed). I will then use the information from the introduction to assign a course gr...
