Re: Sneak Peek #1: New World Geography Guide

I hate to admit how giddy I got when I saw the title of this post! I am so excited that it is time for Sneak Peaks to start rolling in :D . I'm excited too that science was first, since that where dd's sights are for college/career. As always, the chosen curricula looks fabulous!! Thank you, Carrie,...

Re: What are some tips that help your school day run smoothl

For some reason, food/eating times always seemed to be our time killers---and our biggest mess maker-- which obviously kills more time! We implemented a couple of changes about a year ago that really helped us in this area, freeing up much more time in our day. Dh has always cooked our supper meal (...

Re: New to HOD and seeking help regarding Bigger or Preparin

I would definitely take a good look at the placement chart (especially the first page) first if you haven't already. If it is borderline, my personal opinion is to go with Bigger, especially being new to HOD. Eight is the youngest recommended age for Preparing, and that is generally for those who ha...

Re: As we move into high school, the design of the guides...

Thank you is not adequate to say for all that goes into the guides. I knew it was a lot of hard work, but I never imagined you having to give up your family time and Sundays for us! I hate that it has to happen for a guide to be written. You are laying aside your 'direct' mothering/teaching for som...

Re: Thinking about the future.....

2025 here :D And wanna know something else crazy? When my youngest finished the first guide, the thought had crossed my mind to sell it. Then I got to thinking about grandchildren and the way everything was going. I was afraid my children would not have access to the wonderful HOD guides and corresp...

Re: Combining for 6 & 8 Yo's

You actually have a great set-up with currently doing CtC, Bigger, and Little Hearts. Moving up to RtR, Preparing, and Beyond next year is very doable. I don't know if your oldest was in HOD prior to CtC and completed Bigger and/or Preparing, but it may help you to know that Bigger is the most teach...

Re: As we move into high school, the design of the guides...

Just now seeing this thread, and have really enjoyed "hearing" everyone's thoughts. We LOVE the daily plans, so my vote is definitely to keep that format. When I first thought about prep for college, I wondered if perhaps the guides did need to move into a different format. But after pondering more,...

Re: cursive handwriting?

How far into Bigger are you? Preparing doesn't have a cursive program ; however, it has dc doing some of the copywork in cursive. So in order to keep up the skills until you get to Preparing, maybe you could just have dc do some of the Bigger copywork in cursive rather than doing another book. I wou...

Re: Spelling not sticking

Assuming you are doing the things Julie asked about......this may be an encouragement (or at least give you hope). My dd(now 9), had a really hard time. We would do every.single.activity. Exactly as it was written--yet she never mastered the words in each unit. I was frustrated, and we would repeat ...

Re: Singapore 2A pg 84?

I don't know if this is the right answer, but I allow my dc to work the problems in the manner that they choose once they have demonstrated they understand the concept. So I usually have them do the mental math for the lesson that is taught. Then I typically have them do it that way for a while unti...

Re: 7th grade in RTR, mostly science related

My dd is in the same progression of guides (but one year along). She did RtR for 7th, and is now doing RevtoRev for 8th. She has her sights on vet school. I know it's a different field, but still science....so I just thought I'd share.... She did RtR science as written. This year in RevtoRev, she is...

Re: Roll Call - When are you all starting?

We sort of school year round. However, we did take a "total" break from July 27 till today. We were all happy to get started back, even after such a short break. I need to update my siggy, but we have RevtoRev, CtC, finishing Bigger/will move to Preparing mid-year, just starting Beyond, and going to...

Along with A Reason for Handwriting, and of course Dithor and Singapore math was already in her 100 picks. (I'm sure there are more HOD recommended bo...

Re: Field trips

I don't know how far you are willing to travel, but The American Village is in Montevallo, AL (which is approx a 4 hour drive from Albany, GA). They have lots of different shows, activities, and re-enactments for all age groups. They have different things going on at different times during the year ...
