Re: Okay. What exactly is half-speed?
Thanks, Julie!!! I have been reading so many threads here recently and have found myself getting really frustrated whenever I see people say "half speed". I decided to just ask, as silly as I may look. I really appreciate your answer, and I got way more information than I expected! Now to mull over ...

Okay. What exactly is half-speed?
I know I've seen this "defined" here before, and differently by many people. I'm interested in how YOU define half-speed, and also how Carrie/Julie define it, as well. Of course, I can't find any threads when searching. So, please indulge me! I thought it was do the left side one day and the right s...

Re: "Not to be missed" read alouds from Beyond?
I think we have loved every one that we have read - House at Pooh Corner, The Sword in the Tree, Mr. Popper's Penguins, A Lion to Guard Us, Paddington... just to name a few!
I think my kids' favorites were The Cricket in Times Square, Key to the Treasure, and Follow My Leader.

Re: When HOD Makes A Change In Books...
I had to laugh at this post. I have Jeremy, too, but as soon as I saw that there was a new book, I put it on my list for next year. I've never seen that book before, and can't wait to get it!

Re: Little Hearts or Beyond?
We had bought Little Hearts for my daughter's K year (this year) and partly due to a stressful move, we shelved HOD for most of the year. The Lord has drawn me back to it, so my daughter is going to be finishing this year with Little Hearts, and doing it for about half of next year (1st grade), as w...

Re: I'm *almost* ready to place my order...
I actually did talk with Mike this morning as I had some other questions and just wanted to double-clarify as it was a big difference in money I'll be saving by substituting. He was SO helpful, and their substitution policy is amazing. Glad to hear of other positive experiences!

Re: If you run multiple guides...
Thank you, Carrie. I think there is a lot of wisdom in what you say! I was looking over my catalog last night and thinking what an amazing woman you are. Any of you women that put so much time into writing these curriculum choices for us homeschoolers. Thank you for that, and thank you for taking th...

I'm *almost* ready to place my order...
I feel peace about using HOD next year. I've got everything picked out I want and just had another substitution question. Can you only substitute literature-type books, or can you do anything that HOD sells (assuming it is equal or lesser value). For example, say I have a history book from the econo...

Re: If you run multiple guides...
Thank you for all of these ideas. This is helpful to have different points of view to think about this. I like the ideas of having a Friday for art, or doing them in the evening, maybe with Dad. Of course, sometimes it may just need to be each person with their own art, lol.

If you run multiple guides...
If you run multiple guides and you have multiple art projects or activities on a day, do you do everything? If my daughter has an art project, and my son is supposed to do an art project, as well, I find that everyone wants to do everything. Since the activities are so intertwined with what they are...

Re: Questions about Bigger
Hi Carrie, I am pondering what you said. I do plan on doing the regularly scheduled read alouds and in the back of my mind, I am wondering if we would have time to get to the extensions as read alouds, as well. I was planning on having my daughter do Little Hearts again and listening to my son's rea...

Re: Questions about Bigger
I just wanted to encourage you that you really CAN do more than one guide. Sometimes it takes a while to get into the groove. Give yourself permission to run things at half-speed for a while if you need to do so. I have almost never been able to start day 1 on a Monday! HOD has such a flow to it th...

Re: Questions about Bigger
I am doing Bigger with a 3rd grader, and I honestly can't see her getting as much from it had I done it in 2nd grade. That little bit of maturity has made her narrations and big picture understanding so much deeper. So, yes, restart Bigger! There will be things he remembers, other things that will ...
