Re: Awesome First Day with Beyond!!!

So glad your first day went well!!! My kiddos are in Unit 20 in LHTH and LHFHG and we had a great day today as well! No one complained about anything and they did all their work cheerfully. I really do LOVE HOD and am so glad the Lord lead me here :)

Re: Placement, phonics advice for 1st grader

We are using The Reading Lesson and my dc and I REALLY like it. I also use Explode the Code which compliments TRL very nicely. I had purchased Phonic Pathways and Abeka's Handbook for Reading and Letters and Sounds K because I was wanting more "rules" to be taught and neither were a good fit for our...

TRL Lesson 11....Help!

My ds has just started lesson 11 in The Reading Lesson and I'm finding problems with the new word lists. We do not say "oo" as in moon and room the same way as the "oo" in look and good. It was very confusing to him as he sounded out the words and I had to correct on him on several of the words beca...

Re: Need help- the ABC's are not "sticking!"

I give another shout out for The Leapfrog Letter Factory !!! I have used that alone to teach all 3 of my dc and it worked GREAT!!! Within just a couple of weeks, they learned their letters AND sounds and they have never had a problem remembering them since. If you haven't tried that dvd yet I would ...

Spelling in Beyond

I will have a 6 yr old in Beyond (right side only) this coming school year and I had a spelling question. I have been looking at and really like "Soaring with Spelling" and wondered if I used that program what would it replace in Beyond's spelling? Just the spelling list? Would he still need to do t...

Re: Gaps in The Reading Lesson?

I actually think I am going to get another program that teaches more in depth JUST to have on hand to reference rules and such and keep going on through TRL to teach reading. Seems like the best of both worlds...they can learn to read more quickly for now with TRL and later on, if the need arises, w...

Re: Gaps in The Reading Lesson?

Thank you very much Alicia! Very good to hear they are doing well even without learning all the "rules". I think another reason I was concerned was that being in the public school system myself and being taught sight words mostly with a little phonics in first or second grade, I was never taught man...

Gaps in The Reading Lesson?

First I want to say that I love The Reading Lesson and both my 4 yr old dd and 5 yr old ds are on lesson 8 and doing well. My only concern is since TRL does not get into many "rules" of reading, will there be any gaps in their learning compared with programs like All About Reading or Abeka? Will the...
