Re: Spelling Question
We always used the dry erase board last year for Beyond. DD didn't like spelling very much and it kept it fun for her. It worked well for us and she has turned into a pretty good speller, so no regrets!

Re: Handwriting help.....
MY 3rd grader has been known to have the worst handwriting in the free world, but I found a mead handwriting notebook for this year and she is writing beautifully. I am very pleased with how she has improved. I bought hers at Wal-Mart, but here is an amazon link below to show you what it looks like....

Re: LHTH for Kindergarten year?
Hi Chandra, I have a 4 year old and 5 year old. LHTH was not a good fit for us for some reason when I tried it last year for them. This year I had hoped my 5 yo ds would do LHFHG for K, but it was too much for him. He enjoyed the hands on math, handwriting, etc, but not so much the history and story...

Re: Fish out of Water
Hi, forgive me for repeating if another post says that same thing, but I find it helpful to get the older child started doing something he/she can do independently and then school the younger one(s). We also utilize nap time to have instruction time for the older child while the house is quieter. I ...

Re: Grammar in Beyond/Bigger; FLL vs. R&S
Hi,
My dd was ready for more that what was in the Beyond Language Arts box last year, so I used the R & S Cllimbing to Good English book for 2nd grade. It was what we needed. Now we are in R & S English 2 with Bigger and it is perfect!

DITHOR Really does work!
I've been giving free time to the dc in the morning. My oldest does math, cursive and the Independent reading (DITHOR) selection reading while I do school with the younger ones, then they can have free play together. Well, I finished up early with the young ones, checked dd's math and said..ok go pl...

Re: Woohoo!
Yay Gina! So happy for you! As far as the mischief goes, you may be able to minimize it by setting out playdough or having a certain area for blocks within your supervision. I've even heard of a mom setting up a water play station at the kitchen sink, although mine couldn't be trusted that far! :win...

Re: Question about dates in Bigger
Hi, I would kindly and politely let my "well-meaning" family members know that content is what's important. Your dd is learning history...what if she memorized the dates these historical figures lived and died, but didn't know what they did to become historical figures? In P.S. that's exactly what g...

Re: Before I call the sitter and fly off to Fiji....
Thank you all for your encouragement. MommaDonna, my week was so much better. You're advice really helped me. When I started viewing my son as "just 5" instead of "almost 6". My whole perspective changed! The Lord is good! We are doing the science page by page from the beginning at his pace, started...

Re: DITHOR
We are new (just a couple of weeks) into DITHOR and it is a challenge even for my 3rd grader in Bigger who enjoys reading. I may not know enough yet to give advice, but if you did DITHOR half speed, I'd cut the reading to half each day i.e. 6 pages of reading one day then 4 pages of reading + DITHOR...

Math Questions
Okay, so I have a child who is not a big math fan in the first place...some history: We did CLP the first half of 1st grade and she was soaring through math. Due to family issues, I switched her to the Online Virtual Academy K-12 for 2nd semester of 1st. It was me not trusting God that caused me to ...

Re: Books to Encourage/Inspire
Hi, I can recommend Stepping Heavenward by Elizabeth Prentiss. I think it is a must read once a year :)! Also, any book that you can read by Susan Hunt will encourage you beyond imagination. Susan wrote the ABC Bible Verses recommended for Little Hands to Heaven, but she also has written many ladies...

Re: LHFHG Bible Verses ?
Hi, we just write out our Bible verses on index cards and put them in a little cheap photo album. I got a small plastic one at Wal-Mart for $1 in the scrapbooking area.
Hope this helps!

Re: Before I call the sitter and fly off to Fiji....
Wow, Donna, my "almost 6" year old is a Noah too! I think you're right. The age thing has me losing my contentment with letting him be who he is since he's behind most of his peers too. Thank you for your encouragement and for bringing that to my attention. I wasn't fully conscious that I was strugg...
