Re: Singapore 2A

Just a thought...I remember one of the exercises in one the TM (can't remember which level or which one! Sorry!) you write a problem vertically or horizontally on an index card or piece of paper. Say 3 + 5. So write that vertically since she is able to grasp that easily. Then have her take clothespi...

Re: DITHR - Level 2/3 books too easy?

My dd just finished DITHR at the 2/3 level for 2nd grade and is the same way with "consuming" every book she comes in contact with. I agree with a pp that it was fine for her to have something a little easier than the actual grade level that she is ready at. (Hope that makes sense) She started the y...

Re: Preparing DITHR?

I think someone said 4-5 genres in a previous post. I am doing Preparing in the fall and had the same question.

Re: Bigger & Preparing~? About a Post by Carrie

I am going to take a stab at the answer although I am not certain. I think it might be because the age ranges overlap (Bigger - 7-9 and Preparing - 8-10). So if you had 2 children that were close enough in age range to be in those guides, you would probably combine them into one guide. Just my thoug...

Yep, that's it! Thank you! I am never successful searching for threads. Not sure what the issue is.

Thanks again!

Times to complete Preparing Boxes

Just wondering if anyone knows of a previous thread (or from personal experience) that gives me some guidance on how long each box takes in Preparing? I am doing my best to guess but want to make sure I am on track.

Thanks for any help!

Re: Field trips

Don't know where you live but we are St. Augustine, FL (oldest city) so we gets LOTS of cool field trips locally. And Beyond does the whole first unit on how St. Augustine was founded. It was lots of fun to actually visit the places we talked about in history. I agree with pp, anything related to co...

Re: Question for Julie about her schedule

Thanks, Julie!
That does help. I will just let ds finish with dd when she completes Preparing and then pick up where we left off the following fall.

Question for Julie about her schedule

Hi, Julie! I read in another post somewhere that you do school 4 days per week and then just stop wherever you are in the guide at the end of the "school year" and then pick back up in the fall wherever you left off. Not sure what kind of testing, etc that you guys have to do in your state. My quest...

Re: Pace for DITHOR

Thanks so much, ladies! This totally goes against my grain to not finish it when we finish everything else, but I will have to let go of that. :D

Pace for DITHOR

We are starting Preparing in the fall, so this is the first year with a 4 day unit. Does anyone have any suggestions for setting the pace for DITHOR for the year? In Preparing, it is only set for 3 days per week (105 days for the year) but there are 180 days for lessons in the DITHOR guide. Did you ...

Preparing Encyclopedia Suggestions?

Does anyone have an electronic encyclopedia that you have used for Preparing that you would recommend? I am not crazy about using wikipedia for all of the research items. I am not sure where to start looking on this one.

Any suggestions would be great!

Re: How does DITHOR work if you do more than one book in a g

You don't do all of the workbook pages for each book. For instance, if you had 2 books for biography, you might end up doing Days 1-5 with the first book and then 6-15 with the second book. So you will not repeat the workbook pages but will use them with different books. We did both this year (one b...

Re: New to HS and HOD- Practical implementation advice?

Hi, Kim! Welcome to homeschooling! I remember that feeling of excitement mixed with a little fear my first year. I'm like Kathleen. I set a schedule for the year based on approx how long each box should take. I am using 3 different guides with my 3 oldest children, so I try to schedule the independe...

Re: Enjoying the summer, but looking forward to more HOD!

Pam, I couldn't agree more! Every summer, I think to myself "We should school year round! What do we need a break for?" I'm enjoying extra time to get house projects done but I am heading into Preparing in the fall and I am so excited I can't stand it! I am certain that HOD has a lot to do with our ...
