Re: Trying to decide if HOD CTC is right for us
Hi Melissa, I have not done CTC either, but I wanted to comment on your other question. This is our first year using HOD, and I also worried whether my kids would enjoy the reading. They were not huge readers, and I hoped that a literature based curriculum would help this. I can tell you that they L...

Re: Help! What to use with a 7, 5 and 4 year old?
I just wanted to say that I would definitely combine your younger dc also. I started my 5 1/2 yo in LHFHG in Sept. After about 5 weeks, I stopped doing everything except reading, math, and FMS. In January, I started doing HTH with her and my 4yo dd. I continued with the reading, math, and FMS. They ...

Re: Preparing for a fourth grader
My 10 yo 4th grader (Nov birthday) takes about 1 hour of my time in the morning & about 1/2 hour after lunch. The rest of the time, he is completing work on his own. HTH a little!

Re: half pace schedule for bigger
I am doing Bigger half speed with my 7yo ds this year for 2nd grade, but we do it a little differently. We do the right side daily (except for science) because I want to keep him on track to finish the 2nd grade math and grammar. I don't know what your plans are for that. Anyway we do History Readin...

Re: Help with deciding on which guide to pick!
If you have read all of the Emerging Readers, there are supplemental titles listed for each selection in the back of the Bigger guide. No questions...but there are additional books.

Re: written narrations in Preparing
I am not sure how to post a link, but Carrie has posted such an example if you look under the "Reasons for HOD's Choices" tab.
Thank you Julie for your response!!

Re: written narrations in Preparing
I'd like to tag onto this question if you don't mind... Julie, you said Written narrations are not the same thing as summaries, which is why every student's should look different. This is our first year doing narration, and I still do not quite understand the difference between a narration and a sum...

Re: A heck of a mess we're in....how do I straighten this ou
I think going 1/2 speed would definitely help you get into the groove. We are doing Preparing this year with my DS10 and Bigger at 1/2 speed with my DS7. It is definitely doable with one at 1/2 speed. My plan is to let my DS7 do Bigger at 1/2 speed this entire year and then work up to full speed nex...

Re: Question re: combining
Thank you so much for responding, Julie!! I know you are all busy with your own schooling and working on the new guide. That is exactly what I decided to do! I ordered LHTH and will go through that with my two girls just for a little fun and to solidify letter sounds with my younger daughter. They b...

Re: Question re: combining
Thank you, Julie for your response! You did understand what I was thinking. Here is some more information on my girls...Lexie (will be 6 in Feb.) is the one who started LHFHG in Sept. I would not exactly call her flighty, but she is definitely free-spirited! :D I don't think she was necessarily havi...

I forgot to mention we would only be doing 3 -4 days per week, not full speed. I want to take about 4 years to go thru first 3 guides. Thanks!!!

Question re: combining
I have a quick question regarding combining my two girls. I have a just turned 4 yo and an almost 6 yo. I started LHFHG with my 5 yo in September and stopped after a couple of months doing 3 days/week. She was having a hard time concentrating on the readings. We continued math, handwriting, and phon...

Re: What to do if you have a great speller?
My just turned 10 yo was flying thru dictation also. I started at a lower level because this is the first time we have ever done dictation. I started jumping forward because he was not missing anything. We finally landed around Level 4 day 15 or so. The passages are much longer, and punctuation does...
