Re: Placement - bigger vs preparing?
I also wouldn't necessarily worry about putting her in level 3. Like the other ladies mentioned, level 3 isn't hard. But level 4 is a jump and level 5 is even more so. In addition, the higher up in level you go the more writing assignments they have. I would just use level 2 this year since it goes ...

Re: Homeschool Names
So, we call our school the Green House School. It is kind of a funny story though. We live in a green house. And one day after church, my kids were asking to go out to eat. My hubby said we can eat at the Green House Restaurant. They looked at him kinda funny and he said, "Just wait, you'll recogniz...

Re: MTMM-extensions only?
You would do both the extensions and the history portion. But the part that you could omit (if you felt like it was just too much) is the story time box. The extensions are basically replacing that box with higher level books and with a bit more work.

Re: Schedule for Principles of Mathematics 2?
I think there is a schedule in some of the new guides. However, we just do one lesson per day. I do math 5 days a week with the program. It works great for us to do it this way.

Re: If You Keep a Book List for High School
It would depend on the purpose of the book list. What are you trying to accomplish with it?

Re: Dual Enrollment Vs. HOD all the way?
One thing that has come to mind as this discussion has progressed is that we all come to homeschool for different reasons. Our reasons for homeschooling probably are reflected in our decisions about dual enrollment. So I think it might be wise to spend some time deciding why you homeschool. Then us...

Re: Anyone starting CtC this fall?
We will start on 8/16. For us, each one of my kids have their own binders. I put their history notebooking pages in it, map work, any Bible activities (we are using Genesis Our Roots since I have an older addition), math tests, and then their science notebooking assignments. I also purchased all of ...

Re: Dual Enrollment Vs. HOD all the way?
My oldest is going into 8th grade but I teach college classes. I know many homeschoolers who have done just fine in college without attending any college classes in advance. I think it is a completely personal decision. For us, we will probably keep dual enrollment to a minimum if at all. The only t...

Re: Switching to HOD from MFW
I also don't know how much I would worry about whether or not you missed a few units. When they get to high school, they will cover all of this information again anyway. Welcome to HOD. I hope you love it! We used MFW for a few years and switch to HOD after making it half way through ECC. We love HO...

Re: 1st year doing HOD as a full time SAHM - what would you
Tammy, Thank you so much for all the great ideas! We are actually planning a trip out west next fall with my husband's family. We want to go see the grand canyon and to see Mt Rushmore. I will definitely add the presidential wax museum to the list! It will be a little bit after my daughter finishes ...

Re: 1st year doing HOD as a full time SAHM - what would you
And I'm very excited for you to be retuning to HOD. We tried so many things prior to using it and that was probably good. That way I would know what I love and HOD is what I love! When I found HOD 4 years ago, it was the best year we ever had. Ever since then, we have stuck with it. My kids love it....

Re: 1st year doing HOD as a full time SAHM - what would you
We do a barrage of things. Right now, the kids are doing High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) with me at the gym 3 days a week and then we walk or ride bikes another 2-3 days a week. I ended up buying a program from HIITBURN but they have tons of free workouts on Pinterest. And those workouts are...

Re: Singapore math
I would think that they would be compatible. Someone gifted me some student text when I first started using Singapore and everything has matched up fine Her kids are a bit older than mine so they weren't necessarily the newest ediciton. However, with HOD, you don't need the student text books for th...

Re: Let's share our schedules!
I'm teaching MtMM and CtC this coming year. The only thing I do extra outside of HOD is Latin and my kids take Piano Lessons. It does add a little bit of time to our day but that is okay. I like to school all day long and take plenty of breaks (works for my kids). Here is my schedule for day 1. I cr...

Re: 1st year doing HOD as a full time SAHM - what would you
Thank you so much Momtofive and Rice for your encouragement. This has been a long time coming. I have never been able to fully stay home financially so I was a bit bound to my job. When I was working less hours, I loved it and didn't mind homeschooling and working. But this last 18 months has been a...
