Re: Library or Buy?

I thought about adding in the ISBN for the storytime books. I am guessing page numbers aren't used for DITHOR and ER though - right? I am adding in the HOD price into the spreadsheet, so I might as well add in the ISBN :) If it is just a true reprint, then the ISBN doesn't change. But, if the format...

Re: Library or Buy?

Thanks ladies! I got a little "nerdy" and started an Excel file for all of the readers/storytime books. I listed the number of copies in our city's library system. Of course if they don't' have any, I am stuck buying them. So I color coded those red. Then I color coded ones with fewer than 5 copies ...

Re: Math choices

We are using Horizons. Math was the first subject I looked at as that is what I have a degree in. I wanted a strong program knowing I could add in the hands-on things if needed (I used to teach math for elementary school teachers). Horizons and ABeka are the two most rigorous options for math. By 2n...

Re: Math Question

I haven't used Singapore, but I have taught future elementary teachers math (at our community college). I have become a HUGE fan of pictoral/hands on introductions to things like borrowing. I would definitely have him draw pictures for a couple and see what is going on. Do you have Legos? Work with ...

Re: Main changes...LHFHG?

The only changes are to math and thinking skills (1st grade) because those books had to be changed. The left side I don't think is changing at all, and the thinking skills part most people had been dealing with for a while.

Re: Library or Buy?

Our"loan program is within the city. We can recheck them too just like books at the closest branch. And many of the books for ER are available at a bunch of branches, so they should he pretty easy to get. But if there are only a few copies then I will consider buying I guess. Thanks.

Library or Buy?

Do you tend to buy the books for DITHOR, ER, and storytime or do you tend to borrow them from the library? Advantages/disadvantages? Our library is less than a mile away, so we can even walk there. It is part of a big system, and they will transfer the books from one location to another for us. So, ...

Re: New LHFHG guide

I think you are right about the catalog. I know it was printed, so it is just a matter of shipping now for it. And the new LHFHG is just a week or so behind it.

Re: Curriculum for my 1st grader

Hi Sheri! If you are using your own math and phonics, then you will need the economy package plus a science book (there are three choices). The economy package has the history, the guide with activities, lesson plans, etc, fine motor skills, and storytime. For LHFHG, this costs about $80. Then the s...

Re: Multiple guides

One of the pinned posts at the top is for schedules. It is great to see how others do it. The good thing is the early years seems to be short. We will be doing LHTH and LHFHG this year, and total that shouldn't take us more than 2-3 hours a day. And then once they get to Preparing I think it is, the...

Re: Am I crazy to start now??

We school year round. The only reason I haven't started HOD yet is because we are waiting on the new LHFHG guide. But we started phonics and math back in April as soon as we were done with the previous set of material. We take days off here and there when needed, but I don't see the point in not sch...

So as long as we put in the comments that we want the new edition of LHFHG, then it is okay to order now? Ordering will make me stop second guessing my choices :)

Re: Switching from Sonlight

Although we aren't coming from Sl, my daughter is someone in the same shoes as yours. We are using Horizons for phonics and math (since I bought grade 1 before finding HOD). She can read level 1 readers, but she is only 5. I don't want to push her ahead and then have problems later simply because sh...
