RtR: replacing consumables on writing?

I think I saw somewhere that there was a new Medieval Writing Lessons edition (though I don't remember where/when I saw that). We ordered the RtR set (from HOD) in 2011----(ETA--I just pulled it out---I have the second edition). In getting ready to order replacements for consumables, do I just need ...

Letter reversals in child who previously did not?

My just turned 8 yo has been reversing letters over the last couple of months. At first, I did not worry about it much, thinking she was just tired, had spring fever, or whatever. But.....it is continuing, and not only continuing, but getting worse. This dd has been writing has been normal for 3 yea...

Re: If you've used Preparing, please vote!

I used with a newly 10 year old and it was a perfect fit. I also used with a 11.5 year old (turned 12 half way through), with extentions, and it was still a perfect fit. (They were not combined, used it in different years). Next kiddo will start it soon at newly 11 and I know it will be a perfect fi...

Re: Teaching Time In Geograhpy Guide??

Thanks Carrie! That is exactly what I was looking for! Sounds awesome! :D (And I should have probably clarified my terminology. I did mean "together" time, as most of our time is spent going over stuff, etc, and not so much teaching anymore  Deltagal, We have done it different ways in the past...

Teaching Time In Geograhpy Guide??

Assuming a student is appropriately placed in the Geography Guide, has come up through HOD doing all independent boxes well independently, etc (in other words....assuming no modifications or extras or special needs)......How much teaching time is estimated for the Geography guide? I have been having...

Re: Does each student need their own Nature Journal for MTMM

I am really just bumping this up for you as I don't know the answer for sure. But I do think it would probably be ideal to have each their own do based on the description. It says the spiral bound soft-cover book has space for work, but it may be that you can do the work on separate paper???

I can't wait to see it!!! (And, yes, Carrie and family---you too Julie---would be considered celebrity status should we ever get the privilege to meet them. (Though we are in the way south and they neeeeeee-verrrrrrrrr make it down this far (said in my "life is totally unfair and I have been wronged...

Re: Should I switch from Sonlight?

I only used Sonlight with my oldest for K and 1st grade, so I can't compare to levels above (what used to be called) Core 1---(I think they changed the names???) But I wholeheartedly agree with what has been said here.

I didn't even realize how effectively we had progressed until sitting and listening to this talk and realizing that we already had all this lady was talking about!! :D I had this exact experience/feeling when talking with a group of ladies a few weeks ago talking about being so worried about their ...

Re: Placement help for mixed skill levels

I would not recommend starting Preparing with a newly 8 year old based on content (and moving forward wouldn't have a newly 9 year old in CtC)----not that it hasn't been done successfully.... *I* just wouldn't do it  . But....I see your kiddos were 8 in December, so assuming we are talking for...

Re: Skipping Rev to Rev?

RevtoRev is fantastic ( I learned an incredible amount of stuff along with dd  ), but if DD is solidly placing at MtMM or above, I would go with where she places.

Re: Question about Preparing

I've had two do Preparing with the extensions. They both did both the ind. history plus the extensions. The ind. history assignments are great, and they would have hated to have missed those (they enjoyed the extension readings also).

Re: what grade should I call the kids? (for AWANA & co-op)

We don't do Awana or co-ops, but for Sunday School classes, we go with what they would be in if they had gone to school. I have 2 with summer birthdays (our cutoff is Sept). I would have "held them back" if I had been sending them to school, so I "held them back" for church classes. (I did not hold ...

Re: What is the writing like in CTC

We have been pleased with the writing progression through HOD. It does start out gentle (which is a good thing imo  ). But, trust me, it definitely picks up (which is also a good thing  ). Here is a link to a post that Carrie made some time ago about the progression of writing through th...
