I'd like the chime in about the Rod & Staff workbooks, as well. My son, but especially my daughter, LOVED these workbooks - they did them when they were 4 & 5 years old. They are very affordable, and really teach the basics, practice cutting, pasting, etc. Also, the KUMON work books (available at TA...

Cursive or Manuscript for Kindergarten?
Well, we're finally starting our school year (delayed due to travel, illness, and I'll admit a bit of laziness and me not being better prepared). Although we HAVE been keeping busy with workbooks (finishing up the R&S Pre-K workbooks and a couple of fun visual/reasoning pre-K books by Critical Think...

Re: our 1st year of school**LHFHG or LHTH**
I agree that LITTLE HANDS TO HEAVEN is so much fun - you'd hate to miss out on this sweet program. I started when my children were 3 & 4 and ds (3yo) was NOT ready/interested. Now they are 4 & 5 and they are doing well. I thought my 5yo DD (who knows her numbers, letters, sounds, colors beautifully,...

Re: For dc that barely misses cut off for K...
I'd say wait another couple of years before worrying about which way to go and when. That's hard, I know - I've been researching since my kids were 2 years old, as well and wanted it all planned out in advance!! I have two dc very close in age (only 6 months apart) and of course I plan to hs them to...

Re: Using HOD in at-home child care setting??
If I were you, I'd probably take it slow and add maybe one or two "extra" kids to the grades YOU are already teaching YOUR children. No extra subjects for you to have to teach, no extra people to employ to help you out.

Re: more help about the "missing year"
I've been thinking about the "missing year" as well. I wish HOD Heart of Dakota had a world geography program similar to WP WinterPromise "Children Around The World" or MFW My Father's World "Exploring Countries & Cultures". I'm thinking of doing one of those two programs for 3rd grade and giving my...

I've been trying to decide between My Father's World & Heart of Dakota, too - I had the first 8 years planned out with MFW including field trips & vacations to coincide with what we'd be studying that year! THEN I stumbled upon HOD and started Little Hands this year (MFW didn't really have a prescho...

Hi Terri - I'm in BONNEY LAKE, too! Well, officially rural Pierce County, almost right smack in the middle between Bonney Lake-Sumner-Orting. You're practically my neighbor! Feel free to email me if you'd like to chat some more - I'd love to pick your brain! (email: icul8rg8r@yahoo.com)

Received LITTLE HANDS TO HEAVEN - now how do I start?
Hi - this may seem like a really lame question, but I'm completely new to homeschooling. I have two 4-year-olds (one really hyper little boy who just turned 4 and one very shy girl who is 6 months older but in maturity level is more like a year older than her brother). I just recently ordered/receiv...
