Replacement in Basic Package Res to Ref
We own the entire Viking Quest series and have read through them all and LOVE them. I'm looking for a good viking replacement for Mystery of the Silver Coins. Two possibilities are Beorn the Proud and Rolf and the Viking Bow. Does anyone have an opinion of these two books or any recommendations? Tha...

Re: Skip Early Reader's Bible?????
If your dd doesn't like the The Early Readers Bible, it's easy to just skip it and move straight to Owl at Home. My dd had already read that Bible and transitioned easily to Owl at Home, having no problems with the comprehension questions. You will just finish the Emerging Reader set early. We had n...

Re: Preparing Unit 24, Day 3
The Bible discussion that day that Carrie included actually lead us to discussion as to why that statement and more about the chapter was not biblical.

Re: narration challenges
I could have written your post right down to the last period. We are on week 14 in Preparing and my dd has the exact same oral narrating problem. I mean exactly the same! She handles the work load very well and writes excellent narrations. But, like you, I also think it is because she gets to re-rea...

DITHOR ?
I have a dd who will be in first grade next year who will be beyond the emerging readers. Would DITHOR be too much for her? She will be a fairly young six, Late June birthday.

Grammar
If my 12 year old son has had four years of Shurley English, would he be good going straight into Rod and Staff 6? He would be in MTMM next year. I know R&S has diagramming that he has missed. Would it be too hard to jump in? Thanks

Re: Phonics question 1st grade
My suggestion would be to use the Handbook for Reading with the phonics 1 worksheets. Use HOD's suggestions for other Language Arts. He could also read the emerging readers set alongside the Abeka readers. We did this for 1st grade last year with excellent results.

Re: phonics with The Reading Lesson
The Reading Lesson is not going to be as complete as Abeka. It teaches to about a 2nd grade reading level and doesn't cover all the sounds like Abeka eventually does in 1st. FWIW, I used Abeka's Handbook for Reading and the basic phonics flashcards with the Letters and Sounds workbooks.

Wondering how Reading Grade Level is Determined
This is probably a question for Carrie. I've been plugging book titles into scholastic book wizard and noticed that they consistently grade books at a higher grade level than the same books in your book shop. For example, The Courage of Sarah Noble is graded 3.4 here as opposed to 4.4 at scholastic....
