1st week with beyond

we've just completed our first week in beyond. it is really wonderful!! (not that i expected anything different.) we are all loving it! with our 3 month old, we're still totally without routine, which makes it hard to accomplish anything (at least for me), but we're slowly chipping away at it!

we call ours 'trade wind elementary'. trade wind is part of our location, so that's why we chose it.

just wondering if anyone has added literature, be it fiction or non fiction to beyond. we love reading here, and would love ideas of extras books to co-ordinate with the topics.

thanks!

math u see vs. singapore

ok. i'm thinking that it looks like i'll be using hod, maybe forever. i have a question about my son regarding math w/ hod, though. my dd was using singapore for k, even before we decided on hod. it has been a perfect fit for her. but knowing my ds's personality and learning style, when just compari...

thanks, carrie! i was sort of debating whether i wanted to stretch out lhth or lhfhg. i think for the sake of time for me as well, i'd be glad to stretch lhfhg. i figure the second year i could always add some intensity with extras if we want them. we're starting lhth in less than a month. he's exci...

anybody stretch lhfhg over 2 years?

if so, how did it go? did you or your child get tired of something after 2 years with it? i know i'm always excited to do the next thing at the end of the year, but i'm sort of thinking it might work best for my son if give him 2 years of k.

thanks, all, for your replies. i'm going to be doing 2 this year, but one is lhth. i think, though, that that will help me start down the path of doing two longer ones. and slowly i'll just know how to mesh it all and keep it short enough for our life style.

i didn't really 'leave' mfw because i only used it for one year and never planned to use it all the way through, but i definitely feel that hod fits me and my daughter better than mfw.

(we are just finishing up k. most of it we dropped or adjusted. just did the weekly science units.)

? about hod moving kids towards independence

as kids get older, i agree that they should be able to work more independently than they did as younger children. but one of the main reasons that i am homeschooling my children is for the time that i get to spend with them doing it. could you give me an idea of what moving them towards independence...

?'s about combining kids

i have a dd who i've purchased beyond for as her 1st grade program. she is a perfect fit for it. (skill level, etc.) she has a little brother who is probably going to be 2 grades behind her. (3 if he's slow to want to do school, but i'm hoping for the 2 that their ages put them apart.) this year i'm...
