Re: Emerging Readers Question
We are! I'm doing the 3R's 5 days a week (and will find other read aloud for us both once she finishes LHFHG & Beyond ones). But the guide were doing 3 days a week and she won't finish that till Jan 2019 (we started in June). Then we'll take another 1.5 years to do Beyond, putting her in Bigger Fall...

Re: Emerging Readers Question
It happens maybe once every 5 or 6 lessons that she doesn't know the answer or doesn't answer it correctly. She doesn't struggle at all with reading. She reads the ER without stumbling; she knows all the words already. Here's a couple of examples of questions she struggled with - "Can you explain wh...

Emerging Readers Question
Hi all! So we spend the summer easing into LHFHG with my 5 year old. She's already reading so we're using Emerging Readers from Beyond. We're now picking up speed and in a good groove. :) My question is this (and it pertains to the Emerging Readers and the LHFHG storytime)... usually my daughter ans...

Re: Spelling in Beyond question
Great! Thanks, Stephanie! I'll keep doing what I've been doing and also keep an eye out for if spelling overwhelms her. Right now she's enjoying it and spells the words right the first day. I'm guessing that will change as we move into longer words!

Spelling in Beyond question
My 5 yo dd is doing LHFHG (we're on unit 3) but she's doing Singapore math 1A, emerging readers and the spelling list 1 from Beyond. I've been skipping the days in the spelling box that go over grammar stuff - like what a sentence is, fragments, subjects of sentences, etc. My thought is we'll do it ...

Re: Spiral Bound Guides???
Thanks for your answers, ladies! Stephanie - stupid question... when you put contact paper on it, do you fold it around the cover or just trim it at the edge. Not sure if my question makes sense or not.

Spiral Bound Guides???
I've had this internal debate going on since my box day several weeks ago... and then a few posts here and on some of the FB groups have brought it to the forefront again. How many of you spiral bind your guides? We are starting our journey with my oldest and I currently have 2 others and am hopeful...

Re: Newbie
I'm new here too - just started LHFHG for my 5 year old. So I can't add a lot but I would add to the pro list the incredible community of ladies here to support, encourage, and answer questions. In addition, the wonderful lady who wrote all the curriculum (Carrie) is very active; her sister (Julie) ...

Re: Half speed
I have a question to tack onto this... I've read (here & other posts) that when you do half speed you should still do LA/math every day. But how do you do this? Wouldn't you end up ahead in the guide for LA & math?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Just venting
That sounds like a very frustrating situation and I would feel the same way you do. And I agree with the other Sarah. You are doing the best for your son and you know best what he can handle. He obviously needs the slower pace and you are able to give him one-on-one tailored instruction that he coul...

Re: Another Question - LHFHG - Italic?
Thanks everyone for the replies! That progam sounds great, dt7673. I'm thinking now that I might need to stick with ARFH because the MDO my kids attend teaches this method. My dd has already been exposed to it and all my subsequent children will be as well. My ds is left handed so I can see him havi...

Re: Phonics for DS already reading
I just realized I left off a detail you asked about. She will sit and listen to someone read a book without pictures for a long time and comprehend it. She also has a few chapter books with no pictures that she enjoys reading on her own and again has good retention and comprehension of what she's re...

Re: Phonics for DS already reading
Hi Carrie! I feel honored that you have responded to my question!! As I said, I have been reading through all of the stickys with all the philosophy (and million other) questions you've answered. I'm blown away by your interaction and willingness to take so much time to answer questions while you ar...
