Re: New to Group
No advice, but I just wanted to say HI, Kyle!!! (I have the privilege of knowing Kyle in "real life":-) Everyone on this board is VERY knowledgeable and helpful, so I know you'll get the answers you need!

Re: Grammar
I have no experience with Winston Grammar, *but* I did R&S 2 with my 7 year old this year, and it has been great. The lessons are short, and we do them all orally b/c he was just not ready for the amount of writing required. I really recommend it!

Re: keeping kids together but one's not quite ready
I think you've already gotten great advice on making Little Hearts work for both your boys. I did want to encourage you that *especially* with little BOYS, planning on doing LHFHG at half-speed (at least at first) is probably a good idea anyway. Those wiggly boys sometimes need a little extra time t...

Re: What Week are you on/What are your holiday plans?
I was just looking at this last night - I think we'll finish up through Week 14, then pick up after the holidays (if I counted right, that will give us a teeny Thanksgiving break, and take us through about the second week of December). I usually do the same as you, but we're expecting a baby in Febr...

Re: Grade levels when homeschooling
Let your kids work on whatever level they need...whether that's preschool or 2nd grade when their 5, but still call them their grade they are by age This is what we do in our house - grade levels are so arbitrary anyway...my 7 year old is doing what is termed "3rd grade" work in most everything, bu...

I'm doing R&S 2 with a 3rd grader as well - I think in general R&S English is about a year ahead of other programs.

My 5 year old has adjusted so well to LHFHG!!
Yay!! We did 2 weeks at half speed - then this week I've done all the plans each day, and she's doing great with it! In fact, in some things (like math and the "Do it carefully" book) she *begs* to do more than she's supposed to for that day:-) She LOVES the rhymes and the Bible verse songs. She LOV...

Re: Am I missing it? LHFHG
The focus in Little Hearts is learning HOW to read - phonics lessons are scheduled, as well as beginning handwriting skills. I think most programs don't start spelling until a child has already learned to read.

Had our 1st day in Little Hearts today!
All went well - my little girlie was SOOOO excited to look at all her "new books". :-) It took about an hour, which included some minutes of bringing her back from doing gymnastics around the living room LOL. And of course, the first day brought with it a question...today did go well, but I had to "...

Re: Anyone expecting?
I am! Expecting #4 in February. My next youngest just turned 5, and we've only homeschooled 4 years, so I have NO idea what it's like to homeschool through pregnancy or with a newborn. I guess I'll find out! :-) I imagine I will be VERY thankful for the "pick up and go" aspect of HOD when the time c...

I agree with Patty about Asheville area. Yes, it has its share of darkness, that's for sure, but there are some great churches and plenty of believers up there too. It is absolutely a *gorgeous* area, and tons of homeschoolers, and tons to do and see! The other good news would be that NC is soooooo ...

we really enjoyed her here in NC We sure did! (and Patty, I was very glad to meet you in person as well!) That late Saturday afternoon slot is probably one of the the worst as far as attendance, b/c so many people leave the conference by that time on Saturday, but I *so* appreciated getting to hear...

I'm so excited to get to meet Carrie this weekend at NCHE!
Anybody else going to be at the NCHE conference??? I cannot *wait*! As far as I can tell from the schedule online, Carrie will be speaking at just one vendor workshop about DITHOR (which I *will* be attending). But I can't wait to go to the booth, hold all the manuals/books in my hands! Yay!!!!!!
