Re: Struggling with The Reading Lesson
I have The Reading Lesson for my 5 yr old - I don't really like how the book is laid out. I've never tried anything else though. I try to think of fun ways to read the words other than staring at the book the whole lesson. So far I'm only 10 days into this but I make index cards with the review word...

Re: The Meaning Behind the Name
I am new to HOD too and plan to start with it this fall with my kids - I asked this same question about why it is called Heart of Dakota. Love how the curriculum has a focus to reach children's hearts - the most important thing!

Beautiful reminder. I love that hymn too. That's reaching a child's heart for sure!

How much space do I need for "my stuff" for homeschool?
We are designing our big open basement room for homeschooling planning desks for all and lots of storage for them, but I don't know MY needs for storage, teacher books, computer, etc....what would you all say about storage needed for MOM? A computer? White board? And is a globe really necessary? I f...

Re: How do I "beef up" Little hands for kindergarten?
This year I tried beefing up little hands for my 5 yo Kindergarten student. Looking back, I think it would have been better to start LHFHG and just go half speed. Of course you know your child the best but I found that with my daughter, LHTH was just too simple and geared more for preschool. If it ...

How does testing and giving grades work in lower levels?
Are there tests in the guides?
Sorry for such a simple question but this is all new to me and I haven't held a guide in my hands yet, although they're on order!
Does HOD have a system for test scores and/or record keeping for each child?

I was blessed by a call from Mike Austin as well regarding placement - he was SO helpful - and I feel very confident with my choices.

Re: How do I "beef up" Little hands for kindergarten?
totally makes sense, thanks everyone for the replies!
I'm going with K math essentials (singapore), The Reading Lesson, and Reason for Handwriting in addition to LHTH.
This way my 3 yr old has something to do along with my K student but she has a few extra things to do.

How do I "beef up" Little hands for kindergarten?
I'm using Little Hands for my "just turned 5 yr old" and want to start with a phonics or simple math in addition to what the guide has. I'm nervous Little Hands will be too easy for her since she's gone through 2 yrs of private preK and is pretty smart but I don't want to push her since she's so you...

How do you like Singapore Math?
I've decided on placement for my kids but wondering if Singapore Math is a well loved math book or if there are others that are preferred. My kids are "used to" Bob Jones because that was the curriculum they used when they were in private school but this is my first go at homeschooling. Kids will be...
