Re: Homeschool Names
I didn't really think about naming our homeschool until it was time to order my dd diploma. I had no idea how long it would take to find a name that fit and sounded right or we would have definitely started sooner. We ended up going with Providence Harbor Christian Academy. Providence because I beli...

Re: Dual Enrollment Vs. HOD all the way?
We homeschool in Georgia and I totally understand the pressure to utilize the no cost programs for dual credit. The savings on books and tuition can easily reach thousands of dollars. This is not peanuts for families like mine who pinch pennies every week. My daughter wants to go into nursing, so sh...

Re: Veteran HODer Freaking Out!
I hear you. My son is the same way. He doesn’t love to read stories. He is a great reader. He is very good with words in general. He understands literature concepts (plot, setting, theme, character development etc.) That’s not the problem. He simply prefers to learn in a different way than I do. For...

Re: Parts of the Guides?
Oh, how I have wished for this option as well. My daughter uses HOD as written. I tweak it for my son. He uses parts of HOD and different choices of curriculum for the parts we don't use. Almost on a daily basis I think how much easier it would be to implement the parts of HOD he uses if each sectio...

Re: Prayer request and question
Hello Lynn, I just have a moment, but I wanted to let you know I understand your concern. My daughter has health issues which caused her to get behind during her 10th grade year. She actually spent a few days in the hospital and it was quite some time before we could get a full day of school done wi...

Re: General topic: Homeschooling & Moving,
My family has moved three times while homeschooling. The first time I really burned my candle at both ends trying to get it all done, to the point I almost gave up! The second time, it was close to summer, so we just "dismissed" school early and only had the move to deal with. The third time, I deci...

No problem. If you find any other solutions that work well, come back and post them. I would be interested in hearing about them.

Re: HS Journal Pages
The pencil can sometimes be hard to see. My Daughter used a mechanical pencil with #9 lead or a fine tip sharpie. The thicker lead seemed to show up a little wider and darker so it was easier to read. Of course, the problem with sharpie is obvious...it is permanent. She also typed some assignments a...

Re: HOD Highschool = Prestigious Private School
Absolutely you can share. Thanks Tabitha. That is very ironic. My dd was just telling me about bloody Mary yesterday. She encountered it in her World History reading along with various people who were burned at the stake for their christian beliefs. She was very animated while telling me all about i...

HOD Highschool = Prestigious Private School
Our World History resources arrived a while ago and have been waiting to be unboxed and placed on our bookshelf for this school year. As I was looking through the items, my daughter came into the room and joined me. I commented on how interesting it all looked. She agreed and said, "I like doing Hea...

That is great news! I can sense your relief. The ACT is daunting enough without extra pressure of any kind. I'm glad it was a smooth process for you.

Re: Desks in bedrooms?
It sounds like they are making a responsible decision to choose to be separate in order to concentrate better. This must mean they take their school seriously, which is a good thing. My kids also requested to have desks in separate areas to reduce distractions. It has worked well for us and they fin...

I am not sure what a work box is, but this is funny never-the-less. Actually, it cracked me up. It sounds just like something my kids would say. Thanks for sharing.
