My 10yo daughter struggled with this too. She is a kinesthetic learner. I finally started having her make things out of playdough (re: the story) or anything else with her hands during storytime. Made all the difference in the world. Not sure if this is your situation, but thought I'd throw it out.

My daughter completed 8th grade and No-Nonsense Algebra in June. She had pre-algebra in 7th grade public school. She really enjoyed No-Nonsense - was very clear - and she rarely needed my help. Thanks! That's what I hoped. Our kids here complete about 14 credits per school year needing a minimum of 46 to graduate. So the 1 credit = 1 semester answer makes the most sense in my case I think. Appreciate the help!
