Re: Answers to Guide Questions
Thanks so much for your time and response! We have been doing those two boxes much as you have described doing them yourself. So if in the discussion of the guiding questions my son's response is, "I have no idea," should we just move on having read and enjoyed the poem/text for what it was?

Answers to Guide Questions
I have read and understand Carrie's reasons for not including an "answer key" or answer guide to discussion questions posed throughout the guides. However, I am struggling to move through some of the levels without any help or guidance. Specifically, we are in Rev to Rev this year, and the Worthy Wo...

Storytime fill-in-the-blanks
For the portion of storytime in LHFHT where the child needs to fill in the blanks, it specifies for them to write on unlined paper. My son has difficulty sizing his letters appropriately, and I am wondering if it matters if I use "handwriting" paper. I only ask because it specifically says "unlined"...

Re: What's after phonics?
OK, I'm sorry for sounding dumb here, but what exactly do you DO with the emerging readers? Is it just a book for my son to read out loud to me? And if it doesn't correspond with the units, then what does the schedule in the back of the guide tell you? If I am understanding this correctly, the phoni...

Re: What's after phonics?
So when I get the ER, do I need to buy the Beyond guide at the same time? And then what will I do when we actually get to Beyond if we are done with some of the ER?

What's after phonics?
My son turned 5 in October, but we started LHFHG in September. He is doing awesome with it and loves it. He is a very strong reader and is on lesson 15 in TRL. We will finish it up well before we finish LHFHG. So what do I do after that? As a totally random side-story...I took my son to the doctor f...

LHFHG History Reaading
Ok, so in LHFHG unit 10 day 5, I read the story from History Stories for Children. Then I read the key idea. The two didn't seem to match at all! The story said nothing about his being a Macedonian king, a great conqueror, or his making Babylon the capitol. Not that it really matters, but was that i...

Adding Stuff
So just out of curiosity, am I the only person who uses the program exactly "as is"? We are on unit 5 in LHFHG and we absolutely love it. It is perfect for his skill level, attention span, and interest. He is learning so much, and we all have fun. But sometimes I get frustrated/discouraged because I...

If there are instructions/activities on the bottom of the math pages that are not included in the guide, do I need to do them?

FYI, The Reading Lesson has a free progress chart and completion certificates on their website. My little guy loves to sticker off each lesson as he finishes

Re: Left or right handed
Great info, thanks. We have a lot of lefties in our family, so I was not at all surprised when he showed that preference. And many of the lefties in my family only write left handed but do other things (throwing and eating) right handed. Anyway, my real question I guess, is what do I do with his han...

Left or right handed
Hey there, When doing any sort of writing, coloring, tracing, even cutting, my son frequently switches back and forth between his right hand and left hand. He sometimes even holds one crayon in each hand and switches off (it's kind of funny to watch actually!). I would call him left handed based whi...

Re: Handwriting ability
Thanks for the input. I know he is young, and we really went back and forth about whether or not to start him on LHFHG at all. Fact is, he is asking for more! I have done "trial runs" with some of the reading and he likes it and can sit through it. We plan to go slow anyway and stretch the next few ...

My son is finishing up LHTH next week and will be going into LHFHG in the fall. He is doing fantastic, loves school, and can't wait to officially start "kindergarden." I know that he is ready to move into the next guide, with the exception of handwriting. He really struggles with writing. He has nev...
