Preparing over 2 years
I'm thinking of doing Preparing with my will be 9 year old next year. Currently she is doing Bigger just fine. I did Preparing with my 11 year old last year and he was able to keep up with the requirements just fine. My daughter will have trouble with all the writing. Her reading level will not be a...

Re: CTC science
My son will be 11 and can do Preparing on his own if needed. He's also been reading an Apologia book on his own and taking notes. He should be fine.

CTC science
What was your experience like using the science in Creation to Christ. Did your kids like it? Were they able to complete it on their own? Thanks!

Re: Saxon vs. Singapore Math
My background--I had a child who went through Singapore 6A and one who went through 2B. I switched all my kids to Saxon. I would stay with Saxon. Singapore is really hard to just jump into after level 3. If you had them take a placement test, you may find that you have to go back a ways so they coul...

Re: Scared of Singapore... help
I am using Saxon for my 3rd and 4th children. My 3rd grader needed more review than Singapore allowed. He doesn't always get the concept the first time around either, so the spiral thing works really well for him. My Kindergartener/1st grader really needed to have something she knew easily each day ...

Re: Scared of Singapore... help
You may not want to start your 4th grader in Singapore and chose a more traditional program. A lot of people who give their children the placement test find that their child tests low only because Singapore teaches math a little differently. If you start in the beginning and teach the levels up to t...

Preparing and IEW
I am thinking about having my 10 year old son do Preparing next year. He has been doing IEW for 2 years now and I have liked how it teaches a child to write. Is the writing in Preparing enough or are there people who have added an IEW theme book to the curriculum? I'm not sure I'm convinced that wri...

Re: Placing children
My daughter seems like she should place in Beyond, but she's also immature for her age. She gets frustrated easily and I need to take things slower with her, but she's too advanced for Little. My 10 year old is probably ready for Preparing, but I would like for him to get some American history in be...

Placing children
I will have a 10 year old 4th grade boy who can write short narrations and read well. He hasn't done American history lately. He finished rod and staff 3 and can write paragraphs using IEW level A resources. I'm not sure how well he remembers what he reads - he can read at a 6th grade level but I'm ...
