Re: OMG!! IT IS HERE!! I WANT TO CRY LOL!
So so Happy for you!!!! :D One of the best home school decisions I have ever made was switching from the curriculum you used the past 3 months to HOD! They are nothing alike. I really think you will be glad for HOD. Starting 1/2 speed is a good idea. It helps a lot coming from the other. LOL! I kiss...

Re: Teach to the youngest or oldest?
I have the same situation with two fairly close academically (except for reading that my oldest soars in to the high school level), and they are 21 months apart. I did choose separate guides in the end. The threads I started on trying to place them are recent since I am new to HOD! It may help you t...

Re: New: Do you use one guide or two for children close in
Thank you for all of your input and help in thinking this through ladies! :D Reading Carrie's and Julie's comments on all of the post-it threads at the top of this board helped too. Thank you ladies! :D I have decided to go with Preparing for my 10 year old w/ DITHOR, Bigger for my 8.5 year old, and...

Re: New: Placement Advice Please
If your oldest is a really good reader, since he's older, you could have him reading the history portion in Preparing as well. That would free you up a bit more. You could probably get a good bit of Bigger done while he's reading the history and doing the other Independent work in Preparing. He is ...

Re: New: Do you use one guide or two for children close in
my 1 and 2 are 20 months apart, and 2 and 3 are 22 months apart. I have them all in separate guides. A lot of people don't recommend Preparing, Bigger, and Beyond together, but if that's where they place then it's really not that bad. But I would suggest starting them at different times, a week or ...

Re: New: Placement Advice Please
Another option might be to do Beyond 3-4 days a week, Bigger 5 days a week, and CTC half-speed. That would help you ease into using HOD. Your dd has time to spread out Beyond and Bigger so she doesn't hit Preparing until 4th grade. Your ds8.5 could do Bigger this year and Preparing next year, and b...

Re: New: Do you use one guide or two for children close in
Well, you could always just get Preparing and Beyond and try combining the older two. You will know in a few weeks whether it will work for your middle one. If it doesn't you can continue his 3 Rs and have him do history etc with his Beyond sister. I think this is a good idea. I was looking more at...

Re: New: Do you use one guide or two for children close in
I already responded on your other thread! But I thought this post by Carrie about running guides that are close together might be of interest... http://www.heartofdakota.com/board3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=12297&p=88574&hilit=combine#p88574 I also wondered whether maybe you could put your middle son in ...

New: Do you use one guide or two for children close in age
I am wondering if it is easier to use two guides or one guide for children close in age? My oldest 3 children are 20 months apart. What are the advantages & disadvantages to combining or keeping them separate? It looks like Carrie builds a lot of skills into the Bible and history and science that lo...

Re: New: Placement Advice Please
I would definitely put your 10 yr old in Preparing based on what you have shared. If you didn't have another child in Beyond, I might suggest putting your 8 1/2 in bigger with extensions, placing in math and English where he is at. However, Bigger is a big teaching load and to combine that with Bey...

New: Placement Advice Please
The more I look at this curriculum the more impressed I am by it being what I have been looking for and the type of education I want for my children! :D The thoughtfulness, Christ centeredness, and book choices are wonderful. We have always home schooled and my children are 10 (older end of 4th), 8 ...
