we'll probably mostly do a traditional schedule with the main reason being that my dh is a public school teacher and he messes us up when he's home! That's not totally true, but there is a different dynamic in the house when daddy's on break. We almost never school when Papa is home! I've ha...

Re: Here are the rules...

[Look at the very bottom - Rule 10 - for the 'then & than' rule] Good vs. Well Rule 3. The word good is an adjective, while well is an adverb. Examples: You did a good job. Good describes the job. You did the job well. I tell my children..."You can't DO something good but you can BE a good somethin...

I needed to choose between Little and Beyond Little for my two boys and decided to go with Beyond. The younger one hasn't had any trouble keeping up at all....and both boys have their own individual math and language at their own levels. It has worked really well for us!

It's interesting what Carrie and LeAnna said about being schedulers by nature and not schooling year round. I wonder how much of that plays into how we decide. I am a fly by the seat of my pants gal and that can't help but work it's way into our schooling. I know you can schedule year round but it ...

I read somewhere that one of the most common grammar mistakes we make today is then vs. than.

And my pet peeve is the misuse of good vs. well!

We don't usually start out the school year planning on going year round but it always works out that way! We end up taking so much time off during the year for whatever reason that we need the summer to finish up (which we never REALLY finish up, haha). We like a long break at Christmas and any tim...

Greetings...once again...from Alaska!

Hello Ladies! I am Crystal in Alaska....I was here at the start up of this board and I've popped in a few times since then. I haven't been here in a few months though. Almost 2 months ago our house burned down and we lost everything but the clothes on our backs....including our dogs and cats which ...

I would definitely move on! I think it's important to keep them moving forward and challenging them. If they have something down pat they may enjoy it doing it but they aren't neccessarily "learning" any more. I think also it helps down the road if they encounter something that takes them a while to...

I've been able to us BLHFHG with my first grader and my second grader so if your son is ready I don't see any reason to wait. Besides, that's one of the many beauties of homeschooling...who cares what's official?!!!!!!

I haven't used more then one of Carrie's books at the same time but I am using one book for two students in different grades. I am doing BLH with my first and second graders (almost 6 and 7). It is working beautifully. I have reading and math for each of them on their own level but they both do ever...

My biggest time saver is definitely the older children! My 15yo and 11yo can do any subject I need them to with the 5yo or 7yo. It also helps them see and feel how far they've come! I know some moms who don't utilize their older children and I think they are really missing out on some valuble help!!...

I can't wait!

Do you think it would be do-able to adapt this to a more advanced 11 year old (actually by Aug. 08 she'll be a 12 year old)?
