Getting ready to order Preparing

Wow, sometimes we have to go the long route to find out what we should be doing! I won't go through it all here. Suffice it to say that with one in CTC with extensions and one in LHFHG we've decided to bring the 9 and 10 yos down to Preparing (instead of joining big brother in CTC). Just a few quest...

Re: need suggestions to help DD

Rice, I want to encourage you that our God is more than able to help your dd. . . We have used resources from National Learning Concepts. . . Perhaps a speech evaluation might be beneficial. Speech is not just for issues with talking, but with all aspects of language. Thanks, Chillin'. I'll take a ...

Re: Question about Aesop's Fables version

Also following. I'm wondering if there's a different literary quality between versions or different reading level? Could someone who owns the suggested one (Classic Treasury of Aesop's Fables from Preparing - I noticed there's a different one in the Deluxe package, are there others in different year...

Re: need suggestions to help DD

Maybe you could look at Critical Thinking's materials. I think they have lots of things that are meant to help a child see connections in different things, especially things like spatial reasoning and stuff like that. Thanks for your quick response, Melanie. I just finished looking at a Critical Th...

need suggestions to help DD

I'm needing some suggestions of how to help my DD succeed in learning. Our 10yo DD has always struggled with reading but didn't seem to fit into the Dyslexia scale of things so we finally had her assessed by a developmental psychologist who did a battery of IQ/academic skills tests. She (thankfully)...

Re: History Supplemental reading: very exciting!

Thanks so much for posting. I haven't even received my LHFHG guide yet (it's on it's way!) but I'll try to remember to look at that. My older kids have had lots of history books so I don't want this one to miss out just because we've switched curricula and don't know where everything is yet! I'll ta...

Re: RECORD KEEPING

I think what you choose to do is dependent on 2 things... what your state requires... and what you are comfortable with. So, I'll just start with the first one (because it's pretty cut and dry and easier to figure out :D ) - what does your state require? :) Then, if you would like to share, what ar...

Re: Master list of HOD books

Thanks, ladies. Part of post removed by board moderator per board rules. I think I'll use the database to do a quick comparison with my old curriculum's book list to see where they overlap. But those are two great ideas. Thanks!

Re: Highschool credits

Thanks everyone! Rice- Are you in ON? I've never heard of a Provincial liaison. Wondering if that's something I should look up. No, we're in Manitoba. There are two for the province (basically one for Winnipeg, one for rural) and that's who we send our registration form to in September and reports ...

Re: Highschool credits

Just to throw another idea out there, our provincial homeschool liaison said that any homeschool credits awarded are useless since their not accredited. (A HS mom was asking about keeping track of hours and awarding credits on a transcript.) Basically it's more useful to list which courses they've c...

Master list of HOD books

Is there a master list of which books are used in which guide, which package they belong to, the author, which subject they are used for, and, if applicable, what media they are (CD, DVD, etc.)? I would love to have a spreadsheet of them so I can keep track of which ones are coming up in later guide...

Re: When is everyone starting school?

In MB, Canada here (2 hour drive from North Dakota) so summer time is the best time to be outside. (This past winter we had -20 to -30 for months! Much better to school through that.) This means we pretty much follow the school calendar (Sept-June) here, taking extra days as desired and ideally fini...

Re: Subscribing to a forum

You only subscribe to particular threads, not to complete forums. Actually, you can. (I did.) So I'm wondering what emails that actually sends. Right at the bottom, same as in the threads. Also, when you first get on the board, there is a button you can click that says, "view new posts," which will...

Re: HOD vs. Ambleside Online?

My oldest just completed Year 5, second oldest Yr 3.5, third Yr 2 and fourth Yr 0.5 of AO. I LOVE AO, but this year we are moving (lock stock and barrel) to HOD. I am truly sad to be leaving the richness of AO and the book lists BUT my move here is because I can no longer keep up with planning for 4...
