AHHHH! I can't believe I said that!!
My ds12 is in CTC and sometimes he shares that he doesn't really feel like doing so much reading. We have our usual chat, he says, "Yes maam," and he goes off to complete his reading. The other day at the dinner table he shared something with me. J: Mom, I know I say I don't feel like reading so muc...

Re: How are Beyond and Bigger different?
Does it teach this?
"the discovery of the U.S. by Columbus"
It is easy enough to edit for my family since we believe this untrue. I'm just curious if Beyond teaches students that Columbus discovered the U.S.

Re: How do you reward/motivate dc?
I don't reward with prizes, but I do have a set amount of work each week. If they work hard, then by the end of the week they have they natural reward of having less (to no) work. It has a built in natural consequence of regular school days at the end if they play around with their work. I used to ...

Re: How do you reward/motivate dc?
I use to reward with items from a treasure chest and sometimes sweet treats but as my kids get older, I really want them to have intrinsic rewards. I'm still trying to figure it out as I go but I no longer offer toys and candy. We are in CTC with 5th and 6th graders and they know if they finish all ...

Re: Sneak Peek #2: New World History Guide
This is amazing! Just think, this is only ONE class in the new world history guide! I can't wait to see other sneak peeks. Would it be wrong to order this guide for *me* since my oldest is only finishing 6th grade this year ?
BTW, how long will each school day take with this guide?
Thanks!

2 Guides, 1 Child
Cross-posted all over the place . After looking at samples of the history books for Beyond, I think we might do the left side/history from LHFHG but the right side of Beyond for 1st grade. Has anyone done this? How does it affect the flow for the day? How will I ever get away from using two guides? ...

Re: Watercolor Tutorials for CTC
Thank you for doing this!! I am an art-phobe and this makes it possible for me to help my little non-artists . The visuals are definitely needed here. Thanks for making the poetry section doable for us!

Can You Say "Jackpot, Baby!"
I feel like a board hog lol! Bear with me pleeeaaassseee, as I am still new and so stinking' excited! My boys finish school in about four hours each day. Today, J exclaims his epiphany. He said, "Wait a minute! I just realized we finish school earlier than we did with the other curriculum, we learn ...

Re: Retainers and Poetry, Oh My!
 Thanks for sharing, that made me laugh too! I treasure these kind of moments so much with my children! Can you imagine the bullying and torture my ds would've experienced if this happened in public school? I am so grateful that I can educate my own kiddos in a safe, friendly environme...

Re: AHHH! Still don't know if I should order Beyond or LHFHG
I read a few threads on MFW and HOD fb pages and it seems like kids have trouble going from MFW K into HOD Beyond. Something else for me to think about .

Retainers and Poetry, Oh My!
We finished Unit 2 with a bang! My ds read the poem aloud with so much enthusiasm that he blew his retainer out of his mouth and spit in my eye! Yucko! It was so funny that we got a belly ache from laughing so hard! Looking forward to next week .
