Re: High School Science

IPC is a standard 9th grade course in some states. Some states list physical science as the standard 9th grade course. And in some states, neither IPC not physical science is taken by many students. IPC and physical science are very similar courses, and colleges will accept them interchangably. If y...

Re: Calculator for Algebra 1

I haven't used Foersters, but what I know if it, a graphing calculator would not be necessary. The book was originally printed long before graphing calculator. I do highly recommend getting a two line display scientific calculator, if you don't have one already. My personal favorite is the TI 30x ii...

Re: LHTH

I think you can make it work. If the program is at least 33 weeks a year, the 4yo class would be pretty easy. You would do two days of the guide the first two days of the week (with a break in the middle, assuming class is more than an hour), and then on the third day, do the last day and whatever e...

Re: Accellerated 11th and 12th grade

My boys may end up in trades as well. Currently, they both say they want to be in construction management (building or remodeling houses). In our state, vo-tech at a community college counts for dual enrollment! I know some people who have graduated with associates in culinary, welding, and other tr...

Re: Accellerated 11th and 12th grade

I would look at what credits you need for graduation (if required by law) and college admission. It might be that you don't need the history in US2, so you would just do US1 and then economics and personal finance from US2. Similarly, you might find you don't need 4 credits of science or that you do...

Re: Assessment for Kids

If you think your child has gaps in math or grammar, you might want to use some placement tests to spot those. Many curriculums have placement tests, and most are free.

Re: Summer...are you taking a break?

We are continuing through the summer, but on a slower schedule. We are aiming for 2 days of the guide to be done each physical week. Some weeks, like this week, we won't get that much in. But it means we can take more time off when places aren't as crowded! Plus my kids tend to get bored if we take ...

Re: State history

The curriculum HOD uses in MtMM could easily be done in 5th or 6th grades. Depending on what guide you are in at that point, you could either swap it out with another box or just do it on top of the guide. It is only one day per unit, so it isn't a big item. If you have a child in RtR, you could swi...

Another "School Year" Started

We started school up again after 3 weeks of only doing math and dictation on Monday. I now have four gudies going almost fully! My oldest is starting WG. We are doing it mostly as written, with three substitutions (math, foreign language, and Bible). Some things she is grumbling about, but so far ha...

Re: Please help! I need help with curriculum placement for my 3 children.

I am not sure on placement for then. Have you gone and actually looked at the placement chart with fresh eyes to see where you think they place? As for the hymns study, you could easily have them all participate in that together. It is only a few minutes a day, so you could do that around a meal or ...

Re: Subjects Covered

I agree that Preparing definely covers all but government, economics, health, and PE explicitly. Government and economics I think are mentioned some in history, and they are explicitly covered in Rev2Rev and MtMM. If you want to make sure you check all of the boxes, you could spend a day going over ...

Re: Science for 6th Grader

Welcome! You will probably get more replies if you ask this question on the main board. But the extensions for Preparing are just history. They aren't science. So, for an advanced 6th grader, I would definitely do something else. I am assuming you want to keep your kids combined for history. If that...

Re: Spring Sale

We were so thankful for the sale and the option to update our Bigger and Preparing guides! The sale saved our family about $200! I ordered almost everything for WG (using a different math and foreign language), most of the consumables for Rev2Rev for the middle two, and then the Bigger and Preparing...

Re: What do I do if we missed a year?

I would only skip a guide if the guide gets VERY easy and your child places a guide ahead in the placement chart. It is easy to use MtMM for high school. The biggest challenge is adding economics in at some point. The science your can use as written and count it as an elective science or switch it o...
