Re: does heart of dakota work for large families?
I just wanted to pop in and let you know our experience with Heart of Dakota. I have never used MFW, however, I do have eight children and wanted to share how Heart of Dakota has absolutely revolutionized our homeschool experience. My children range in age from 4-19 with two high school graduates, h...

Another reason I LOVE Heart of Dakota!
This month we are exceptionally busy with our family ministry, so I informed my kiddos that we were only going to do math & DITHOR. My 14 year old son, who is in MTMM, enjoys this course so much he added in two boxes from his guide every day just because he loves what he is studying! As a mom, I can...

Re: Contemplating switching to Singapore, but uncertain...
Thanks for the link....
Wow, now I'm wondering what to do even more. Carrie's point about just staying the course with a math curriculum is a compelling argument to just stay with Teaching Textbook. Hmmmm.... What to do, what to do....

Re: Contemplating switching to Singapore, but uncertain...
Thanks for the encouragement! After starting HOD I literally 'Burned the Ship' and sold all my years of accumulated homeschooling materials. Teaching Textbook is the last survivor  I so value just making a plan and sticking to it (Learned from MANY years of switching), that I am having to let ...

Contemplating switching to Singapore, but uncertain...
I have been using HOD for one year now with my kiddos :D , but only switched my three younger kiddos to Singapore last spring. My 11 DD is using TT 5 happily, but I am not seeing her understanding of math increasing very much. I just got back her ITBS scores, and she didn't have a one grade jump up ...

Re: Daily schedules for large families - please share
I really attempt to keep my schedule as simple as possible. I have found that the less transitions the better the day goes for me. I teach grammar/ dictation / writing to my DS in MtMM from 8-8:30. 8:30-9:30 I Teach LHFHG to my first grader. 9:30-11:30 I teach Preparing to my next two. Then I Meet w...

Re: Placing a child who is "all over the place" skill-wise?
Last year I switched 5 of my kiddos over to HOD guides, and my 13 year old son, who has struggled with reading & writing over the years, just successfully completed Rev to Rev this last week. We began short - 5 sentence written narrations with a lot of hand holding, but by the end of the year he was...

Re: Has anyone used CLEP tests?
We are currently using College Plus with our two oldest. They are studying hard and earning lots of credits. They are enjoying both college plus and their CLEP courses. My kiddos do about 3 hours of high school and 3 hours of CLEP study each day. With 8 kiddos it sure makes their college educations ...

Re: Math Facts
My kids really enjoy Math Rider. Its a great, downloadable computer program that weaves a story around learning the math facts as kids take journeys on their horse. It makes drilling facts lots of fun & gives me a really good picture of where they are at.

Re: Help me not give up! NOT doing well
Dear One~ Nothing brings tears to a mommy's eyes like this kind of stress in the home. I wish that you could come over and have a cup of tea. Sharing heart stuff is so much nicer on a couch with something warm in your hands, don't you think? The kids could all run and play like they've known each ot...

spelling troubles
Hi everyone~ I have a 16 year old son who had many many struggles learning to read. He did not read independently until he was in 6th grade. His language skills have improved greatly and he is able to read and write very well now, with the exception of his spelling. It is still a constant challenge ...

Heart of Dakota Favorite Moment!
This morning I was busy teaching my 4 year old using LHFHG, when my 10 year old excitedly asked me to listen to something! She wanted me to hear one of the prophecies of Christ that she had learned that morning doing CTC. She loved the connection that she had made, and then went on to tell me that i...
