Re: IS finishing a guide necessary?
Thank you everyone for your responses! I love that we have a board like this where I can run to for advice. :D I think you all have convinced me to stick with Beyond and finish up. I do not have a Bigger guide. For those of you that do, do you think it is necessary to have the Bigger guide to do Sin...

IS finishing a guide necessary?
I would love some advice on what to do next.... My DD is 7 1/2 and in 2nd grade. We have been doing Beyond for 1.5 school years. We took it very slow last year when she was in 1st grade and have caught up a lot this first semester. I was hoping to have the book completely finished by the end of Dece...

Re: Spelling in Beyond
My daughter is currently doing the Spelling in Beyond. During the first 14 weeks I did not do the spelling list provided, instead I did All About Spelling. While AAS is a great program and it teaches the "why" behind the spelling words it was taking 30 additional minutes to do spelling. I decided to...

Re: Need help- the ABC's are not "sticking!"
We were working on K and I got out a Key for her to touch and hold and we talked about K and the "K" sound. Ever after that she remembered K. She is a kinesthetic learner and so movement or physical interaction really helps her remember things. There is so much of this built into HOD. But for my DD...

Need help- the ABC's are not "sticking!"
I need some input. I have 3 daughters. The older two learned the names of the letters and sounds by the age of 5 with no problems! My 3rd born is 4 1/2 years old... and true to birth order is quite the "silly girl" and I can't seem to figure out how to teach her in a way that sticks! She is having t...

Re: Grade Keeping for Little Hearts and Beyond
That makes sense. I have been keeping lots of samples of their work (probably too much!!!). I just want to make sure I am prepared in case I need to put them in school- I am not planning on it at this point, but you never know what the Lord has in store! I also have a degree in elementary education,...

Re: R&S 2
I have recently wondered this same question with my 7 yro daughter. I felt like once a week English was not enough for her and she caught on so fast to it! So I just started "tabbing" the English page and doing another of the english lessons in beyond whenever we have time. Sometimes I do a new less...

Need help with Singapore 1B
Hey! I am needing helping with teaching a portion of the Singapore 1B. So far my daughter is doing really well- she only gets really frustrated when we get to one section of this workbook, and now that we are reviewing it again and she still struggles I thought I would see if anyone has an idea of "...

Grade Keeping for Little Hearts and Beyond
Hi all! Our year has been going great so far! I have 3 girls and they are all in their own guide this year. My older to are in K and 2nd grade, and are in Little Hearts and Beyond, respectively. Our state does not require that I keep any form of records or participate in testing. They don't even req...

Re: Would switching math programs set us back?
Singapore is also a mastery program...you may still find the same issues if you had to switch to public school down the road? It isn't the spiral vs mastery that makes the difference. Some schools use mastery and others use spiral. The big difference is MUS isn't grade level sequences. So, they don...

Re: Would switching math programs set us back?
Because of how much I love Carrie's hands on activities, I would make the switch. I think Singapore 1 and 2 are great when paired with Carrie's activities. Most of my children are "behind" if you compare grade to Singapore number. However, if you consider that children who make it through 6B well c...

Would switching math programs set us back?
Hi! We have been using Math U See since kindergarten. My daughter will be in 2nd grade this coming year. Math u see is a mastery program. She is in the middle of Alpha which meAns She has only completed addition facts and not yet started on subtraction. Looking at Singapore, she would have to go bac...

Re: Ready for Drawn into Reading?
I agree! I think my 7 year old fits on the chart for Beyond. She is not quite able to write a complete sentence on her own- as is stated in the placement chart for Bigger. I do think she could use more English on a daily basis. I am considering staying with Beyond, doing the Emerging Reader set and ...
