Rod and Staff question
How much writing do you require your child to do with Rod and Staff grade 4 and up? We have been doing it orally, but I am wondering if she should be writing at least some of it out. She moans when she has to write, so I usually give in:( However, if it will benefit her, then I want to make her do i...

LOVING HOD!!
We are only on Day 3 of Unit 1 for both Beyond and Preparing, but WOW... we LOVE it! My 10yodd already asked if we can keep doing HOD forever :D Well.. she said she can do without the dictation/copywork, LOL, but it is just because she is not used to it yet! Our days are so much more smoother now. I...

Suggestions for Spelling...
My 7yo will be doing Beyond in the fall. He has always been a good speller, and I have called out the Spelling List 2 and he only missed 3-4 words... but then corrected himself. I have thought about Rod and Staff Spelling for this year, but it honestly looks too simple, and I am not sure I want a wo...

Re: does this meet what the schools teach
I live in Texas and have never heard of a Texas school requiring you teach TEKS skills. We are considered a private school, and the public school has no say in what you do, regardless of what they try to tell you. That being said... I WOULD make sure that their skills continue to be up to par. I kno...

Re: R&S or Easy Grammar?? Needing advice...
I agree with Carrie.... Rod and Staff is so much more comprehensive than Easy Grammar. As timing allows, I would switch them all over! I have used EG in the past as well, and it is mainly just "grammar" and fill in the blank type stuff. Rod and Staff honestly teaches proper sentence structure, writi...

Re: Question regarding Hillyer book in Preparing
I agree... I think if you use it the way HOD has it scheduled, you may just enjoy it more! I used Sonlight in the past, and it is mainly just reading, with discussion questions. HOD pulls so much from all books read and it makes them so much more meaningful!! I have read through Preparing myself ove...

Re: Help me understand DITHOR
Ok... that helped! Thank you! I do have 2 more questiona  If they have only read, say 2 chapters so far, is that enough reading to complete the worksheet? Does that make sense??? And...If we only get through 4-5 genres, do most of you have your child read the other books not studied through the...

Help me understand DITHOR
I am trying to figure out how to schedule DITHOR! I will be using this with my 10yo daughter, and we will be using Preparing. It is scheduled 3x a week in Preparing. The DITHOR guide says to have them finish the book in 5 days. So if I understand this correctly, they read the book for that genre in ...

I know for a fact that my soon to be 10yo did not read one novel at school last year!! S...

A thought on beefing up guides for HS
As I ponder having to beef up at least one guide for High School in a few years, it has really got me wondering how much really needs to be done. My older two went to Public High School and have looked at the HOD catalog a few times while I was pondering what to use for my younger kiddo's. They both...

Re: Why and How Long?
I have not actually used HOD of Dakota yet, but I plan to this fall. I have Beyond, Preparing and CTC and have read through most of books and Guides... I LOVE it! It is so Christ Centered! However, what really sold me on HOD was Carrie. I had the opportunity to speak with her at the Arlington conven...

Re: CTC quesiton...
Well, my daughter was in public school last year.... However, she had been homeschooled before that. She did very well at school, did not make lower than a 95 on her report card all year. She was a bit bored to be honest with you. We had a lot going on last year, and we knew that public school was t...
