Re: Dictation Errors
Wowza!! I have been schooled the last few days in Charlotte Mason's philosophies. Just yesterday, I finally got a full grasp (I think) of narration after reading several thoughts from her writings (In a not so CM fashion, I had to read several times! Ha!). These concepts are life changing, & I am so...

Re: Dictation Errors
While I certainly can appreciate the historical significance of the text & I know some rules can be debated, I find it difficult to teach from a text with errors in this case. We write the passages on the board & really mark them up, using what we know about spelling, grammar, & punctuation. Then, w...

Dictation Errors
Hi! I thought I knew English well, but I keep coming across what I think are errors in the HOD dictation. For example, Queen Elizabeth was shown as "queen Elizabeth" in level 5, #19. I think I have come across probably 10 or so mistakes. I'm starting to get confused! I have attached another one, in ...

Re: Math Sequence
Thanks everyone. So, Singapore Essentials starts with which guide? I realize all kids are different & may follow their own pace, but I'd still like to know the target sequence in order to finish by 12th grade. Thx!

Re: Baby is due in November, seeking schedule suggestions
Thanks everyone for your feedback! I will be having a c-section & will have to take pain medication (it does a number on me). That, along with no sleep for 3 months (I do nurse) really makes me a zombie! I am planning for the worst but will be overjoyed to have the energy of some of you super moms! ...

Math Sequence
Hi! I am a little confused about math. In a perfect world, if I had started HOD from the beginning, what would the math sequence look like? Thx!

Baby is due in November, seeking schedule suggestions
Hi! My twins & I are starting Preparing next week (very excited). I also have a baby girl due to arrive in November & also have a 3 yo. Since none of my children began sleeping through the night prior to 3 mos old, my original plan was to take 3 mos off from schoolwork. However, I really think the k...

Re: Year round schedule for 4 day week...???
You are right! That leaves several extra weeks. We're just going to stick with that plan. My twins were just pulled from 4th grade, so if we plan to start with Preparing & follow through with all of the other guides, that would put them graduating at 19. Our plan allows us to move on through & give ...

Re: DITHOR and struggling reader
Oh ok. I guess what I'll do is order 4/5 book pack & have them read some to me. I really think they'll be ok, but sometimes it's hard to tell since they've been in public school up to now. Right now, they read books from the library & have to complete a book template. My son does not enjoy reading &...

Re: DITHOR and struggling reader
Hi, just thought I'd jump in here:)! We are first time homeschoolers. My 10 yo twins will begin Preparing in July. Between now & then, we're focusing in language arts & math. My question is, how do I know what level to start them at with DITHOR? Is there some kind if reading comprehension test they ...

Re: Year round schedule for 4 day week...???
We plan to school year round & do "sabbath schooling". 4 days/week + co-op 1 day - 6 weeks on, 1 week off, except 2 weeks off for Christmas. We will use that 7th week for library trips, home repairs/projects, & field trips! This works great with HOD. Basically, you're breaking up "summer break" thro...

Daughter almost 10 yo placing at 1B Singapore Math
Hi, we are 1st time homeschoolers. One of the many reasons we chose to do so is because my daughter passed math with a 70 in 3rd grade & was failing 4th when we pulled her. I am very strong in math (accountant), but she thinks very differently. Singapore Math is top notch IMO, but I will need some h...
