LHTH

I am thinking of using the LHTH curriculum in a formal preschool setting. I used it to teach my little ones. I’ve recently been hired to teach a 3 year old preschool program 2 days per week and a 4 yr old program 3 days per week. One will be playschool and they are hoping that the other will be very...

Delaying kindergarten- need encouragement

Hello Carrie and families! We’ve used Heart of Dakota in our homeschool for the past 6 years for our younger students. We have some special needs in our family. Our oldest is 11 with aspergers and our 5 year old (February birthday) also shares many of his brother’s traits (we Also have an 8 yr old a...

Beyond question

Hi everyone! We are in Beyond 1st grade unit 17. Thus far I have been having my son do his copy work on 1st-2nd grade paper. I've actually been writing it down on 1st-2nd grade paper and having him copy it onto another paper. I'm just wondering how others handle copy work at this stage. Do you have ...

Re: Speech therapy in Nebraska

Thanks for your advice! He is able to pronounce the L and R sounds better when doing phonics... I guess because he is concentrating on the individual sounds. I need to find out what our insurance will cover. We had so many medical bills last year that we were able to itemize medical expenses this ye...

Speech therapy in Nebraska

Does anyone have any suggestions for helping my 7 yo son pronounce his L and R sounds? He can be difficult to understand and now that he's 7 I'm thinking I need to do something. We had his speech evaluated by early intervention when he was in preschool and they didn't seem to think he needed speech ...

Beyond handwriting question

Just finishing Unit 4 day 5 where the kids are writing or dictating ( depending on skill level) statements. I'm wondering, when do children typically begin to write sentences on their own? My son does copy work just fine, we are finishing up The Reading Lesson, and he is getting better at writing hi...

First week with Beyond

Carrie I just wanted to comment and say we just finished our first week of Beyond and we love it! I am so thankful we have found HOD. The transition to LHFHG K from preschool was... Difficult for my lefty boy who didn't want to do handwriting. But the transition from LHFHG to BLHFHG has been SO smoo...

Re: Younger guide questions! :)

I guess where I'm torn is, would doing this put him behind grade level? And is it wrong to do if you don't really have an academic reason for slowing down? It would purely be for the ease of having a mon-Thur schedule.

Younger guide questions! :)

Hello all! I have a question for the group. We used LHFHG K last year and completed the guide in one year. Our Homeschool group has grown so much this year that we are sorta turning into a co op style. So ALL of our clubs will be happening now on Fridays (which is awesome!) This leads me to ponder s...

Placement question

Hi everyone :) My son 6 1/2 will be finishing up LHFHG K here soon. Looking at the placement chart for BLHFHG, I'm wondering if anyone can chime in on where my boy should be placed. We have gone slow on the TRL... We've always done 2 or more pages per day, but we repeated a lot of lessons. Now we ar...

Re: Getting ready for Beyond

I appreciate the advice and I have a few more questions. :) Julie, i read the threads you posted. So how do I really know if it would be a good idea to slow down the guides? My son is doing well with phonics, math and fine motor skills. It's the history that I worry about being over his head compreh...
