Re: Narrating question with two doing one guide
What I have my children do is narrate separately. I start with the youngest or the one whose narration skills are not quite as strong and he narrates what he remembers. I do not let the others interrupt but they can add to it when it is their turn. I don't think the feeding off is such a bad thing a...

Re: RtR1 - What are the consumable items?
Hi Dena. :) We are using RTR and are enjoying it so much! :D The Notebooking pages, the Shakespeare Notebooking pages, Singapore Math Workbooks, Hidden Treasures in Philippians, and the Medieval Writing lessons are all consumable. However, we don't write in the medieval writing book. I have my son ...

Re: Review of HOD at Cathy Duffy's site
Shari, Cathy Duffy uses the Amazon's affiliate program on her sites for all her reviews. This enables her to keep the site free and earn some money through the clicks or purchases from Amazon. She mentions in the last paragraph of the review that all these are available from Heart of Dakota and at t...

Re: I need advice, ds does not like school
I just went to a convention a couple of week ago where I had the privilege of hearing Andrew Pudewa (IEW) speak. The title of his oration was "Teaching Boys and Other Children Who Would Rather Make Forts All Day". He discussed the difference between the way most boys and girls learn. One of his sugg...

Re: The True Story of Noah's Ark, CD (Preparing)
The book is scheduled to be read. I had my book a couple of years before Preparing and misplaced the CD, we had no problems doing Preparing without it. (like PP mentioned it is not even scheduled) We just read the book aloud. I did wish I did have the CD only for the sole purpose of one less thing I...

Re: Not sure about extensions for CTC
Shawna, I just used CTC this year with my 11yo dd/6th grader without the extensions and it was fine. I did use the history option for Storytime and the Girl option for DITHOR (well intended to, but we didn't get around to DITHOR much). I would say that the extensions are not necessary for that age, ...

Re: What do you do during the summer?
We have to have structure to our summers or we just go crazy. We have discovered the Miller books (Wisdom & the Millers, Missionaries & the Millers etc) and my children love them. We read a chapter a day for our devotionals. I also try to concentrate on getting caught up with our housework, so we al...

Re: CTC history Ency. and English recom.
Alison,
We are using CTC this year and have not used a History Encyclopedia. I am wondering if it is an alternative for research from the internet. My daughter usually did her research online (wikipedia) so that may be why it was not necessary (or maybe I just missed something )

My daughter was rough on her pages too and they came out. Now I have them in page protectors where she can pull it out, complete it and then slide it back in.

Re: CTC: Organizing
Chrissy, It all depends on your child. I started using a variation of the workboxes last year with all my children (I used a hanging file with folders instead of the bins). It didn't work for my oldest daughter who needed to see everything at once, so I used a desktop "mail sorter" and put all her b...

Re: Organizing HoD literature that you're not currently using
I do color coding and by subject. I have all my history together, science etc. Our fiction is on a shelf alphabetically by author and I have color coded labels on the lower spine. Since I couldn't find the colors I wanted (at Walmart) my dd suggested that I just get white and color them in so that i...

Chapter 2 Review - Turkey covers pgs 15-22
Chapter 3 Review - Turkey covers pgs 25-32
I would use them after the Travel logs/Bringing It Home sections.
