Re: Quick Question - schooling multi-ages
Thank you. She does help him with some of his schoolwork. One thing she did on her own was ask him to sit with her on the couch when she does her independent reading. She reads the stories to him. She is getting her own reading practice in, but says she is reading to her brother so that he can hear ...

Re: Quick Question - schooling multi-ages
thank you for the lovely response. The ideas are very good ones. My daughter is doing the Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory and our son is doing Little Hands to Heaven. The biggest problem that we face is that our son is very low functioning autistic. Unlike those with the higher functioning Asperg...

Quick Question - schooling multi-ages
I have a what may be a dumb question but here goes. I have a daughter who is nearly 7 and a son who is nearly 5. due to my son being severely delayed (has classic autism and developmental delays) I have to do nearly everything with him either as a visual or hands-on activity for him to learn. unfort...

Holiday Schedules
With all the posts about schedules, I wanted to ask this question. How do you schedule your homeschooling during the busy holiday season? Do you take a couple of weeks off as they do in public schools or do you only take a couple days off? Do you follow a full schedule or lighten it up a bit? We are...

Re: What is one scheduling tip that has helped your school d
I am always looking at ways to make the days go easier. This is my second time around with homeschooling, having homeschooled 2 of my now adult children. I found that this go round, I am able to do the days more smoothly. Here is what I am doing differently with my younger children. 1. They each hav...

Re: What are some tips that help your school day run smoothl
I have to admit that my typical day sounds very different than most of yours through reading the board. We live fully off-the-grid. I charge my netbook and cell phone on a small solar power system. Other than that, we don't use electricity. This means that we do everything the old way, including han...

Re: A Door is Peaking Open
Thank you for the replies. We had another little breakthrough with DS last week. He was moping around all morning and I just couldn't get him out of his mood. After a while, I asked if he wanted his paints. That gave me the first attempted smile of the day. When we got the paints out, he started pai...

A Door is Peaking Open
We are in our 3rd week of HOD and the kids are really enjoying it. Our 6 yr old dd still has the attitude of "is that all I had to do today?" and loves the routine. She especially enjoys all the reading and artwork. Her confidence in reading is beginning to grow. We read the history reading assignme...

Re: So excited!
Praise God! It is so wonderful how things seem to simply click. It is as though the Lord flips a switch inside of our dear ones and they suddenly are able to put it together.
Your precious one did beautifully.

Special HOD Moments
I wanted to share a couple of photos from last couple of weeks. This first one is of our daughter (age 6) reading a book to our son (age 4). http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a512/GrannySimplicity/Homeschool/397349_2436148561047_1780835139_n_zpsc5760afe.jpg These next 2 are a couple showing the wa...

Re: Special Adaptations We Made
Thank you Lee Ann. Honestly, I believe that it is the Lord's grace and blessing that is helping me to teach our son. Going by what the "professionals" and public schools told me in regards to expectations of his ability to learn, he is already doing things they never thought he would do. I know in t...

Re: Special Adaptations We Made
Thanks Carrie. He is loving it. I have tried other preschool programs/curriculums over the past 2 years and they just didn't fit. This curriculum, while I understand that it was not designed to be a special needs curriculum, is easily adaptable. One of the aspects that I really appreciate is the lac...

Thanks for the ideas. She sits at her little school desk that a friend gave her. The new pencil seems to be helping.

He is loving it! As I have mentioned, he is all smiles when he sees me take the manual off the shelf. At story time, he will run over to the couch and climb up to have a snuggle while we read. It is such a change from the way it used to be.

Carrie - I may have made an error in posting
Earlier tonight, I posted, on the LHTH board, about how I am adapting the LHTH activities to match my son's physical ability level. I later noticed that all posts were to start on this board. I am sorry if this messed something up.
