Re: Confused about historical fiction genre....and hist. boo

I was confused too. At the back of the Sarah Whitcher story the author's note said that she was a real person and really did get lost in the woods as a small child. The account of everything that happened to her while she was lost was embellished.

Re: Bible in LHFHG & Beyond

My kids insist on having a Bible reading at breakfast every morning, so when we finish one in the guide we just pick up another children's bible and start all over from the beginning again. :D

Re: Weekly Review: November 12-16

Hello ladies, First, let me say that Julie, I pray that your sweet boy is healed soon. I haven't been around much because I have been experiencing quite a bit of morning sickness. Quite by surprise, I am being blessed with a twin pregnancy (at age 39 when I thought I was done having children). :shoc...

Re: What's your favorite box?

We're in Beyond, and dd5 asks daily whether there will be a science experiment. She loves the hands-on science. :D Since we're going half speed at the moment, it seems like forever before she gets to the next one!

Re: Extracurricular Activities

It really depends on what you yourself can manage. From what you've described, it still sounds like you will have plenty of time for free play. You have three days of extracurricular activities per week; and of those, two of them are only for an hour. That sounds manageable to me, but if you start t...

Re: when to start LHTH?

My younger did it at 2 with her older sister, who was then 4. She had fun, but didn't retain it (and I didn't expect her to) so we're going to do it again in a few months when she turns 4! :D

Re: Should I feel bad that we start school at 6am?

My kids are up at 6 every morning and we still don't get started until 9! So now I feel guilty!  I am impressed that you are on the ball while I am drinking coffee and reading email.

Oh yes, they loved the blubber activity. The shortening didn't come all the way off right away either, so then they got to enjoy smooth, moisturized skin.

Re: This "homeschooled kids" just don't know : )

This thread is really funny. I agree with the post about homeschooled kids not standing in lines. We had a field trip to the art museum last year. All the school kids were in straight lines and quiet. The homeschool kids and their parents, little brothers and sisters, and sometimes grandmas and gran...

Re: Anyone planning to stretch Beyond longer than a year?

We are going to start half speed with Beyond. MWF-MW to complete a Unit (math and reading will be daily). We will not be doing school on Tuesdays because of a bible study that will eat up 4 hours of our day, including travel to and from, and I didn't like having that extra day carrying over to the n...

Re: Roll Call - When are you all starting?

Hi there! Starting Beyond after Labor Day, and will start LHTH with my younger after we hit our 1st grade groove. :D

I'll have a 1st day surprise for them (pencil box and candies) and their picture; and we'll go out to lunch (IHOP probably, their favorite) after.
