What style cursive is Cheerful Cursive?
What style cursive is Cheerful Cursive? I have seen that there is the kind that starts all the lower case letters on the baseline and some start some of the letters on the midline and now there is also a New American Cursive. I haven't been able to tell what style Cheerful Cursive is.

Reading Made Easy vs The Reading Lesson....thoughts please?
Carries has mentioned in the past that her mother feels The Reading Lesson is a very solid program that anyone would be able to use to teach a child to read. I just bought it at a used curriculum sale. I am also borrowing Reading Made Easy from a friend to compare them. RME has much more instruction...

Re: 2 digit horizontal addition Singapore Math question
Well...I decided to go ahead and go back to some of the double digit horizontal math again. I wanted to make sure I had thoroughly taught it well with the Singapore methods and hands on activities and math manipulatives. I did that on Wednesday. And then Thursday he worked through several problems o...

Re: 2 digit horizontal addition Singapore Math question
Thanks Julie & Stephanie for your posts! I guess we are going to be camping out here for a while on 2 digit addition. Or is it okay to move on and it will be revisited later?? I'm also not sure how to reconcile the fact that HOD says they don't NEED to know their math facts yet but Singapore says th...

Re: 2 digit horizontal addition Singapore Math question
So with doing it vertically, have they still established the mental portion of math well that perhaps the horizontal addition is suppose to help support?

2 digit horizontal addition Singapore Math question
What is the purpose of doing 2 digit math equations horizontally instead of vertically? The 1B book teaches it horizontally and says vertical will be introduced in 2A. My son is struggling to get the hang of it horizontally but I'm pretty sure he'd be able to handle it vertically. I think the teache...

Notebooking question - focus on spelling, etc or not?
When doing notebooking, do you just let the child go for it. Think up their own thoughts and get them recorded and not be concerned about the technicalities of writing and spelling? Just wondering whether to let my 2nd grader sort of go for it on his own with minimal guidance from me or whether to d...

Re: Challenges with Singapore 1B (I know, easy stuff)
We are about to start my son's 2nd grade year. I was already feeling stuck at the end of 1st grade. We ended the year a third of the way through the 1B book...so almost through the addition and subtraction, right before multiplication. So we have had a break this summer, with a few math activities t...

Challenges with Singapore 1B (I know, easy stuff)
I am really having a hard time teaching math it seems. And the math I'm having a hard time with is just in the 1B book! I'm having a hard time with the various ways to teach addition and subtraction when it is with a 2 digit number and also a 1 digit number. I decided to get the Home Instructors Gui...

Confused about historical fiction genre....and hist. book
I am confused about what exactly historical fiction is. We are reading Sarah Witcher's story for our historical fiction. Is historical fiction basically just a fictional story that is set in a real time and place in history? So the time and place and ways of the people are historical fact but the st...

Re: Half-paced schedule for Beyond? Or even 3/4 paced??
We are doing 4 days a week already since we have a co-op on Mondays. But we can't seem to get everything done for any particular day in one day. So it is great to see someone's schedule with certain things every day and then certain other subjects broken up between 2 days. Thanks countrymom for shar...

Re: List of Beyond science topics???
The six weeks of science we have done, nothing is from a kit, it is all from your own house! :) Which is what I love! Becky I know that everything is from your home...we already have several science kits that we have purchased. Some we have done parts of the experiments and some we haven't even ope...
