Re: Alternatives to "Screen Time"
My oldest is the only one we have an issue with for too much screen time. We have him do school, read the Bible and other, do a chore or two - basically earn a right to play. Then we set a timer, we used to allow 1 hour but now he gets 30-45 minutes. We are too busy otherwise and we want him to lear...

Re: Singapore Math question
One thing to realize is that Singapore math is advanced, so he wouldn't actually be a full grade behind. My oldest is the same way that you describe your son. The only thing that even halfway works for us is to do math together and have practice times on the computer. We do our best to work as much ...

Re: Storytime with kids in multiple books
don't have 3 different storytimes, only 2, but I suggest moving one of them to lunchtime {to read while they eat}, Ok, I'm NOT being critical just honestly curious and really, really wondering about this...I have read others suggesting this very thing on other boards as a time when books could be r...

Re: Getting Ready to Start up again
I keep coming back and reading this thread. Things have really been up in the air about school time lately. Due to many different things. Reading this help me formulate some ideas & my husband got his job schedule figured out (for now), so we were able to finally talk & make a plan. We will start sc...

Re: Confused by HOD phonics & need reading help
I wanted to mention something we added onto The Reading Lesson for two of mine - although all loved it. TRL has sight words and review words in it that we made into "flash card pages". Occasionally adding a word they asked about or struggled with in a simple reader. We reviewed these daily. It only ...

Re: What to do? One child in 5 day, two children in 4 day
Your proposed schedule sounds good. We had a similar situation going for a time and over all it worked well. We did school 4 1/2 days a week. My oldest needed the extra time and my Beyond child was so quick he was able to do day 5 on the half-day. Beyond's day 5 was shorter, but I feel Bigger's is s...

Re: New to HOD - do I quit the co-op my kids love?
Is there any way you could find something they could do once a month? That's what we did after a once a week schedule didn't work anymore. I personally don't like to get into schedules so jam-packed, although most of my children love it! I am also a homebody and two of my children are not. For us th...

Re: Home Economics
Nealewill, thanks for letting me know. I tried both copy & paste and typing in the link, but it still won't work. Not sure what that is. It does show up for me under the search by typing in: looking for idea for home ec. course ( Post found on page 8 I hope that helps until I can look more into it. ...

I couldn't find one of the posts I was thinking of, but here are the other two: How does half-speed look in your home? viewtopic.php.?f=6&t=5600&p=41232#41232 And BHFHG time it takes (I found knowing the times it should take full-speed to help me for half-speed) viewtopic.php.?f=12&t=702 Hopefully t...

Re: uncombining update and new baby advice needed
There is actually a thread or two on doing half-speed Bigger. When I find it I'll post the link, or maybe someone else will get to it before me. We actually first did Bigger by doing 7-8 boxes a day, picking up where we left off the next day. It took us about 6 days to do 1 unit that way. It extende...

You have gotten great responses! I love Julie's - it is much like my husband & I. Queenireneof3 also was really good. I read this earlier & prayed for you, just now responding because I don't know what you are going through personally. We have allowed a few neighborhood friends (with guidance) for o...

Re: uncombining update and new baby advice needed
Hi! Congratulations on your new baby coming! I think once you get past the initial weeks of no sleep, that you will find teaching with a baby fairly easy. Newborns sleep A LOT which helps. Once they get to toddler stage like mine is now- watch out! Have to train and try new strategies. :D Once in th...

Re: A 2nd grader in Bigger?
Usually I wouldn't put a second grader in Bigger if they hadn't done Beyond. Since you already have it, if you think it would be a fit, then start it. Only I would go through it slowly. I would only do 4 days worth of work a week, or go half speed for 2-3 months. It's not a huge deal now, but being ...
