Re: Using Beyond with an "older" child

I am doing the exact same thing: Beyond with my 1st and 3rd grader, this coming year. It will be my first time using HOD so I am certainly no expert! But I did choose to buy the bigger guide. I want to use the math work that coordinates with her math (she's in Singapore 2) and the spelling/dictation...

Re: Advise for my soon to be 1st grader for phonics/reading

thanks for your input ladies!!
I guess I am going to bite the bullet and pick a program and just keep working at it. It's hard to balance encouraging and providing opportunity with pressuring and frustrating the child!

Thanks again!

Advise for my soon to be 1st grader for phonics/reading

My oldest basically taught herself to read. I can take very little credit. :) So now I have my second and I've been at a loss. I've essentially been piecing together a phonics program, which is what I did first time round, but she is not reading yet. She can sound out 3 letter words and even many bl...

Re: extending Beyond for a 3rd grader and organization

hmmm that is a thought...
Especially if I could find it used.

So spelling and dictation are in the guide? Not separate?

extending Beyond for a 3rd grader and organization

Hi! I am doing beyond with my 1st and 3rd grade daughters this coming school year and I was hoping for a little guidance as to what I will need to add for my 3rd grader. I will obviously add her math and plan on DITHOR I plan on cursive But I am not sure about spelling and grammar. I was really hopi...

I would be interested too!
I have 2 going through beyond and I am thinking the youngest might benefit from 1/2 speed!

Re: Yes, I too would like placement advice. :)

I am so grateful to all of your responses! After taking a good look at all 3 guide samples and the placement chart I feel certain Beyond is the best fit for combination. Now I just have to decide about my DD8's needs when it comes to the three Rs. I think I should order the beyond guide and look at ...

Re: Depth of DITHOR & ? about Biblical genres

I have no wisdom on this topic because I haven't even started HOD yet, but I think that idea sounds very clever!
I think I will hold on to that idea!

hope someone with more experience has some input for you!

Re: Yes, I too would like placement advice. :)

I really feel like my youngest does place in Beyond. She is somewhere between phonics and emerging reader. She can write well her upper and lowercase letters, and can copy sentences. I am unsure of is spelling. We haven't attempted that with her. She has had a good foundation in math already (we sta...

Re: Yes, I too would like placement advice. :)

Oh I really appreciate your reply and input. Please don't interpret my surprise in a negative response. It just hadn't occurred to me at all. I am really going to look at the guide and contemplate what would be best. I really appreciate your taking the time to think through our family situation. Sor...
