How are Beyond and Bigger different?
This has probably been asked a million times, but I'm a little worried about doing American history twice. I've heard it focuses more on the biographical side of history, but how else? Do you think it would be enough for a gifted 3rd grader, with the extensions? I would have to combine him with a yo...

Re: Spelling in Beyond
We started Beyond doing the spelling list, and I was very uncomfortable with it. I felt that just doing the list was lacking...like I needed to be doing more teaching. AAS definitely fits us, so we have replaced the spelling in Beyond with AAS and couldn't be happier. I think just do what your gut t...

Re: Catholics using HOD?
First, I am Catholic and do Image of God in place of the bible memorization. So far, it is a really sweet part of our day ad we are all loving it. I have thought about what you asked and have come to two realizations. Personally, I will just skip the parts in LHFHG that deal with the reformation. It...

Singapore trouble
Hi, I am using 1a right now with my 1st grader, after using Earlybird with him last year. I don't know if it's him or me, but we're both frustrated. I am not a mathy person so this area scares me a bit too. He flew through Earlybird no problems, but we are on number bonds and 1) I don't think I'm te...

Re: Wait on Story Time in LHFHG?
I was exactly in your shoes last year, and I read the Burgess books. If my then 4 yr. old would've had trouble, I would have stopped...but he comprehended just fine. We are doing LHFHG completely this year, and are reading books from Beyond. My 1st grader is doing the 3 R's from Beyond so I have it ...

Hearing and Helping...confused
Hi,
I ordered Hearing and Helping a few weeks back, but randomly noticed that on the website it has been replaced with Just Thinking and Choosing. How did I miss that? Did they change the choice?

Do Beyonds read alouds or ???
Hi, Last year I read the Burgess books to my then 5.5 and 4 year old boys. They both liked them and comprehended quite well, even the 4 year old. I had planned on doing the Beyond read alouds over 2 years, but now that I look at them, I'm just not sure they are at an appropriate level for my just tu...

Re: IF you plan to HS through high school...
Wow, such comforting words of wisdom here! Being that my oldest is just 6, I have a LOT of time to figure things out and plan to take it a year at a time. I am definitely the "lone ranger" in my family and I get called "crazy" and "nuts" on a regular basis. It used to bother me but not so much anymo...

IF you plan to HS through high school...
How did your come to that decision? We are just starting out, but it really never occurred to me that I'd be interested in homeschooling all the way through. Honestly,I thought I'd just do K, and then I thought K-5, and currently I'm thinking K-8...but my DH actually said to me "we aren't doing this...

Re: LHFHG and Going On Eagerly/Hearing and Helping
I don't know how to copy and paste, but I recently asked this question and Carrie graciously responded to it. Maybe someone can link you to it, and if not, search for LHFHG fine motor choices. HTH!

Re: Help with placement for 5 year old
I can't speak for Carrie or Julie, but I can you that Carrie personally recommended that very option for me last year (doing LHTH and right side K skills from LHFHG). Its actually quite a popular option from the posts that I've read here. I know I was a little disappointed to wait to jump in to LHFH...

Re: If you've used Bigger....
Yes, I agree it's probably too hard to tell right now. I do know that he'll be doing the K options for FM and handwriting next year while doing LHFHG, and I'm not sure he will be ready to do all of Beyond the following year (will have just turned 6) with the copy work and all. So...does doing Beyond...

Re: Help with placement for 5 year old
I will chime in and tell you that I wound not repeat LHFHG. Even if you used the 1st grade options, the bible, history, art, (left side) would be the same. This year, my son is doing only the right side of LHFHG, with K options. He was 5 1/2 when we started. Initially, I thought it wasn't meaty enou...
