Preparing for 6th grade
Hi, I am currently homeschooling my 11 year old 5th grade daughter using eclectic materials. I am in the planning stages for 6th grade and love the look of HOD. However, my daughter has Dysgraphia which makes hand writing very difficult for her. We allow her to type certain things. Academically, she...

Re: new to HOD with a question ~ or many *wink*
Jean, that is so sad about your son feeling like he has to "dumb himself down" in ps. My daughter is going through a similar thing at a private school now. Being smart is just not high on the list of the popular kids. Thankfully, she still trieser best and is doing well.We are both looking forward h...

Adding books from previous guides
My daughter and I are really getting excited about using HOD next year. What we are still undecided about is using Bigger w/extensions or Preparing. Even if we do go with Preparing, there are a few books in Bigger that I would love to incorporate in some way. The hymns book looks wonderful, and I've...

Re: YE creationaism in Bigger and Preparing
Thanks,
I asked this question because I was looking through the dinosaur book online in Preparing and couldn't really tell much from the few pages I could see. Really, I am not trying to start any sort of debate on YE or OE. Are there other topics that are ff limits that I should know about?

Singapore math ?
Has anyone started using Singapore with a child who was previously in school and using a typical classroom math program? If so, how was the transition? I really love the look of Singapore.

YE creationaism in Bigger and Preparing
I was wondering if the YE creationist view is a large part of each of these programs or only covered briefly? We aren't YE or really OE for that matter as we believe God exists apart from human time and is not limited by time. We are fine with the YE view, but I want to be able to anticipate any que...

Re: Using HOD overseas
Thank you for the reply! lol about England being overseas :D . Honestly, for the reasons I asked, I guess I wouldn't have considered you guys as "overseas." I've spent quite a bit of time in England, and, really, there isn't anything I can think of that you guys would have trouble finding. It does h...

Using HOD overseas
Hi everyone, I''m pretty new to the board. After looking at curricula for a while, I'm excited to have found Heart of Dakota. From what I've seen, it has just the right mix of CM skills, and Bible/Christian character focus that I've been looking for for my 9 year old daughter. I do have a question a...

Thank you for.letting me know that. I certainly didn't mean to.offend anyone who uses Wikipedia. I have just personally come across offensive material while doing a basic search.

Please do be careful if you use Wikipedia. More than once a student has searched an article in Wikipedia and found inappropriate information.

Re: What do you use for the Research Box?
Hi everyone, I'm new here and haven't actually used Heart of Dakota materials yet, but I do know of several good internet sites that are safe for kids to do research. (Link removed by board moderator per board rules.) I've personally used most of these sites in my classroom as I am currently a middl...

new here-placement question
Hello everyone, This summer my family will be moving to China as part of my husband's M.Div in world missions. I will be homeschooling our then 10 year old daughter who has been in a small Christian school since pre-school. She will have completed 3rd grade. I've checked the placement charts and she...
