Re: OT: Vitamins
we have used all the above w/o success, so I suspect it is an individual thing. But we found the best success for our son with Ontasknaturally.com It is a vitamin supplement containing zinc, mag. and b6. if you go to the site you can read about their journey. I know some of DC's protocol include tho...

Re: Record-Keeping
We live in the state of PA, where keeping attendance , a log and portfolio are required. I purchase a 3 ring hole jelly covered planner from Walmart ($5) and put it right in their binders. We just transfer from the pages of HOD onto it and add any PE, Music or Extra curr. My highschooler does her ow...

Re: When to end the "grade"?
My child was 8 when we officially started his schooling. He has had some dev. delays. prior. When I had to notify the school , they asked what gr. he was. and I felt it was legit to say 1st, as he wasn't reading or writing. We worked on those skills until Jan. and then began HOD Beyond. therefore we...

Questions for Singapore users
We began our delayed child age 8.5 with Beyond in late Jan. We began with singapore 1 a.. and have just finished with it(.Prior to this math we had only been working with dominoes, discussing numbers and how many place settings at the dinner table etc. playing bean bag catch and taking turns calling...

Re: My four year old can add!?!?!?!
This is pretty coincidental. We too were in the car on the way home from the grocery store. My son who has some processing issues and is in gr. 1 at 8 yrs old , using Singapore 1 a. I have been having some flags raised about our choice of using this, mainly because it seems I am the one who is direc...

Re: Concern with Lesson 49 Singapore 1 A
Well it seems by the response, we did the right think by modelling it. But I came away feeling like I told my child not only how to do it but what to do. What then makes Singapore a cut above other math? Sorry, I was doing real good with it until this lesson. Hoping this too shall pass.

Concern with Lesson 49 Singapore 1 A
I am curious to hear if others had concerns or maybe suggestions to approach this lesson. We found it far too abstract for our child. the lesson gives an array of 36 numbers , that the child is to figure out how to use them to make either an addition or subtraction number sentence. They are then to ...

Questions about emerging reader
first I would like to ask how exactly we would define "emerging reader" ? I am thinking it would mean having been done with phonics and they are reading on their own. So that brings me to the next question: Is that what the child would be doing , reading aloud to the parent with the selected books d...

Key Ideas: question
Are we supposed to announce or say anything about the key ideas? why I was asking is in our Reading about History box, the assignment was a reading from the bible, but to the child the connection isn't necessarily obvious to the actual history reading we are doing the other days.

Re: dictation question: what does this mean?
Ok maybe I need to be clearer about my question: Here is where my confusion lies. One day it will say have student complete one dictation exercise But another time it says have student complete the first studied dictation exercise. Hello I need clearer explanation on how extensions are used with an older child. I have a high schooler using CTC with extensions. It is my understanding we are to do everything in guide , plus the ext. ???????? or is it in place of???????? We are doing the science for the CTC BUT enhancing it with ...

Re: singapore question
thank you immensely everyone who took the time to reply and share suggestions as well as to remind me to give myself permission to yes, allow manipulatives beyond just the demonstration activity written in the guide. It's one of those duh! moments , when you instinctively knew what to do. but you ne...
