HS Literature Analysis

Hello, My 14 year old son is currently using the World Geo guide and it's been a good year. Looking ahead to next year using the World History guide, I'm wondering how literary analysis is done with all of the novels in the literature pack. Are there literary analysis sheets somewhere in the student...

Re: Rod & Staff 2 or 3?

Hi Julie, Thank you so much for your response! It was so detailed and I really appreciate that. My son is 7 (turning 8 in a few months). So far, he has learned about subjects, predicates, nouns, verbs, plurals, capitalization, and punctuation. He's grasped these parts of speech and concepts with no ...

Rod & Staff 2 or 3?

Hi, My son will be in Preparing next year. This year, with Bigger, we have chosen to use a different LA book than Rod & Staff. However, I am considering starting him in the Rod & Staff next year with Preparing. Would he need to start at book 2 or would it be okay to start him in book 3? He has had s...

Re: Thank you HOD...loving our school time!

That's wonderful, Gigi! We are in our 6th week of Bigger and I feel the same way. I even tried to switch things up a few weeks ago because I got an "itch" to try a couple of new things that a friend recommended. Boy, was that a stressful week. We happily returned to our HoD schedule and we are defin...

Re: Just loving it... our first week.

We did the exact same thing today! I used my big exercise ball as the "earth" and we posted the oceans and continents on it. We really enjoyed doing it together. :D

"Preparing" with an 8 year old?

Hi Ladies, I'm new to the boards and I've really enjoyed reading so many positive posts here! We have used HOD going on year two now. We like it a lot. My son (7) is in Bigger and we are enjoying it. We just recently started Bigger so we're not too far into it just yet. He is doing well with everyth...

Re: Bigger Half Speed - advice?

Thank you, Julie! I appreciate the link. I have read the posts and it has been very helpful! I really want my son to be ready for Preparing. And I think by spreading Bigger over two years would really allow him to develop better spelling and oral narrations before we move on to written narrations, e...

Bigger Half Speed - advice?

Hello, My son will be in 2nd grade this year and we will be doing Bigger. I'm considering using the guide at "half speed." I've read a few previous posts on the board of mom's going half speed with a guide, but I'm still a bit unsure of how that's done. I want my son to be fully ready for the indepe...

Re: Spelling Help?

Oh, awesome! I had no idea more spelling rules would be covered in R&S. That makes sense that they would be introduced as it applies to grammar. Something handy (and a suggestion) for the HOD website under the "A Look at Each Subject" portion - if something was mentioned about spelling "rules" being...

Spelling Help?

Hi Ladies, I posted a question about HOD's spelling/dictation vs. AAS the other day. Thank you to those to responded! I've been thinking about this subject for the past day or so and I still have some questions... I really would like to use HOD's CM method of spelling/dictation. I'm wondering though...

Re: Am I the only one????

I think it's one of those areas that we have to put our faith in God and not let our worries and anxiety steal our joy and peace. We do not know the future, but He does. I'm so thankful. Our hope is in HIM. Rest easy and turn your worries over to the One who has it under control. :) Philippians 4:6 ...

HOD Spelling lists/dictation vs. AAS

Hello, My son will be using Bigger this year and he is a bright boy. He can spell basic words and he understands how to structure a sentence with correct punctuation, etc. I am debating on whether to use the provided spelling lists/dictation passages this year with him in "Bigger" or use All About S...

Re: Beyond to Bigger- "big jump"

@lissiejo - Thank you! That really helps ease my mind in our transition into Bigger. Like your daughter, my son is very bright and has really enjoyed Beyond, especially the history. I have even learned quite a bit just from our history readings. :) Your post makes me even more excited to see the Big...
