Received our achievement test results today
My boys began HOD for the first time this school year. My 2nd and 3rd grade boys are doing Bigger 4 days a week. We will finish it up next fall and move into Preparing. My 5th grade son has 7 more weeks of Preparing left. It has been a wonderful year. Especially for my older son in Preparing. He has...

Our first couple of weeks
We have finished our first couple of weeks as first-time HOD users. I was a bit anxious to see how it would work out doing both Bigger and Preparing and also with the fact that I decided to combine my 7 and 8 year old together. I am so pleased with how well we are all doing. I have not found Prepari...

Re: Bigger & Preparing~? About a Post by Carrie
I am going to use Bigger at half speed this year. I think it is the better option rather than combining for us! Thanks for the info. I'm sure this might have saved me some initial stress!

Re: A little uncertain now
I'm not out to offend anyone and we homeschool because we want to be in charge of our children's education, right? I was merely talking about what I was comfortable with for my kids! You are free to school however you want...there is no judgement from me!

Re: A little uncertain now
I'm not worried that I have to only count "schooling" hours towards those 900 hour, but I do want to be honest and 45 minutes of school time just concerns me for my 2nd grader. I just want something more for him because I know he is capable of it. 45 minutes seems fine for Kindergarten but I think I...

A little uncertain now
I was decided to begin HOD with my children in the fall and VERY excited about it. I have devoured the message board to gain as much prep and wisdom as I can and it has been very helpful! I did become concerned though when I read that the Beyond program which I plan to use with my 7 year old takes j...

What does half speed look like?
I will have a kindergartener this fall. I see a lot writen about "half speed". I was going to hold off doing Little Hearts with her until 1st grade, but now I am interested in starting it this fall and using it for 2 years. How exactly does that work? Do we only school a few days a week or do we onl...

Re: Some general questions about placement
It was tough but we made it through (colic)! We really slowed down our homeschool schedule but now weare back to full speed and things are flowing more normally then. I rethought everything and decided to hold off on a guide for my kindergartener and am just going to use a Charlotte Mason schedule I...

Re: Some general questions about placement
My 7 year old falls in between Beyond and Bigger. I don't think placing him with my 5 year old would work. My question about English and math is if say I am using the Bigger guide with my 10 year old and he needs to be in a higher level...am I on my own in those subjects? Ideally I would choose Beyo...

Some general questions about placement
I had originally planned on beginning HOD with my 3 oldest children this past fall, until a very colicky infant caused us to scrap that and stick with what we have always done. Now I'm thinking about what we will do when we finish up this school year. We definitely need a change and HOD looks perfec...
