Re: new here and thinking ahead
I just wanted to echo everybody elses advice. Going from public school to homeschool takes a little bit of time and starting with CTC would give you both a little bit of wiggle room skill wise. You mentioned that your daughter hasn't had much formal Bible. Well with CTC she would get to start with B...

Re: handwriting or copywork or both?
My daughter is 7 and is in Beyond. We not longer do handwriting instruction. We use abeka handwriting(the cursive option) in kindergarden and first grade. By second grade they know how to write. That said she hates to write. She has some learning issues that make it a real big chore. What I do is pi...

Re: Ds has fallen behind, how can I get him caught up?
First off take a big deep breath. I know sometimes it very hard to be the one in charge of our children's education. We put so much pressure on ourselves and if your like me doubt will start creeping in. That's when I remember why I do this! I promise that your son is getting a far superior educatio...

So happy for you. My middle child is a lot like your son. Some times I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall. Then all of a sudden she just gets it. At least it's never boring! Hope you guys have a great tomarrow.

Re: Split/Combine? I can't make up my mind!
I vote seperate. I started off combining and it quickly fell apart. Once I got them on their own program it got so much better(easier in fact). Good luck deciding.

I really need advice...
My middle child has really really struggled with reading. In December I took her to get her vision checked. The doctor said that she had 20/20 vision but that he suspected dyslexia. When she would read the letters off the chart she would read it like this first letter, fifth letter, second letter, e...

Re: room set up for HOD
I had a long post written out but I "lost" it. Basically I was going to tell you that desks or table works just fine. We started out with desk but quickly moved to the table. It just works better for us. I don't use the work boxes myself but do something kinda similar. We have bookshelves that hold ...

Re: Independence in upper guides doesn't equ al less interac
My oldest is actually doing a lot of Bigger on her own. She's a typical older child. Very bright and independent. I love that because my middle child needs a lot of my help and my youngest is in kindergarden so I teach every thing myself. That doesn't mean I'm not "plugged" though. After every readi...

Re: Start in the middle of the year?
I just wanted to encourage you to go ahead and start in January! The great thing about homeschooling is there are no rules. You can simply do what's best for your family. I have two kids in two different guides on completly different weeks. I don't worry about it. As long as we're moving forward eve...

Re: Hod with Another Grammar Program
We tried to use R&S last year with Beyond. Unfortunetly it bombed really really bad. Before that we had use Abeka and I think Madalyn was used to the workbook/spiral method. So this year we went with CLE. She has thrived with this. At first it bothered me that we were using something different but t...
