Re: modifying the end of Preparing to include more US histor
Thanks :) To clarify, I mean for both of them, not just my DD. I'm wanting to do a little more than read alouds. Like add in a few weeks of history readings and a project and maybe even some timeline events, probably after week 31 (Wars and Revolutions) and then pick up with week 32 (Napoleon) after...

modifying the end of Preparing to include more US history
Let me preface this by saying that I would not feel the need to do this if we had been doing HOD all along. The last time we did HOD was several years ago when we did Beyond. For the past three years, we have done Classical Conversations and used their history sequence as a springboard for all histo...

any way to make Bigger independent?
I'm looking at Rev to Rev for my rising 6th grader for next year. We also do Classical Conversations and I want to keep my kids doing the same history (next year will be US and US geography.). My DS who will be in 4th grade next year is totally ready for an independent guide but not yet for RtR. I'v...

Adventure read-alouds --King Of The Wind is Too Hard
We are on Unit 5 of Beyond. During the first four Units, spread over 6 weeks, we actually read two biographies--Helen Keller and Squanto. My DD's narration and retelling skills are quite good and her comprehension of these books was strong. We started King of the Wind this week but it seems to be ju...

Re: pics of timeline in beyond?
Somebody please answer, we need to start this timeline! Less columns and rows would mean more drawing space but I don't want to come up short.

Re: pics of timeline in beyond?
Why is the timeline pictured 4x8, but the Beyond guide says to make it 5x9?

Beyond - continent twister game
I just wanted to share this activity that my amazing friend Heather created. We are just about to start Beyond and I made this twister game to supplement. I think it will be great for them to learn the continents and map the travels of the explorers! Hope it helps someone. http://cultivatedlives.blo...

When to start Beyond...1st or wait until 2nd?
I am pretty much settled on HOD for the long haul. We are really enjoying LHFHG this year for K. My DD will be 6 next month. She is an emerging reader, *loves* read alouds, and engages in all the activities in the guide. We are using (and plan to continue using) Spell to Write and Read for phonics/w...

Re: i need more literature suggestions to correlate
I have those books, too, as well as What to Read When, and a plethora of booklists - SL, FIAR, etc. I just would love a list already that correlates with the themes each week so I don't have to go digging through all my lists and resources to come up with titles. (part of post removed by moderator p...

i need more literature suggestions to correlate
So this is our first week using LHFHG and we are all really enjoying it. The only thing missing for us is more literature suggestions. My DD LOVES to sit and listen to read-alouds. She would have had me read the entire Reddy Fox book in one sitting if I had been willing. I know there are suggestions...
