Re: Week in Review 8/1/11-8/5/11

We did Unit 1 of BLHFHG this week. First we with a new cirriculum and first week homeschooling! Well, I did a pre-school program with ds but he went to a Christian school last year for K. Bottom line: LOVE IT. The flexibility of the program was perfect, since my 3 ds has special needs, with therapis...

Re: Super heroes - ok or bad for kids?

On the super hero issue, we allow our ds to play with them - Batman, Robin, Spiderman etc. He has never been one to play with toys very much, but will play with these figures for hours. However, anytime he watches one of the cartoons he'll have a nightmare that night. Without fail. We don't have TV ...

Re: Unit 1, Day 1 Success!

We started Unit 1, day 1 on Monday too. We are doing Beyond for 1st grade. This is our first year homeschooling and I love what we've done the past 3 days. I have a younger son who has special needs so he has a crazy therapy schedule, some who come to the house and some who we take him to. So far we...

Re: Half speed with Beyond

I really do think he is well placed for Beyond right now (apart from the handwriting issue) however my main worry is having him do Bigger next year. From what I have read on this board, I think he'll have a rough time doing Bigger as a seven year old boy! So maybe we'll do the full program, 4 days a...

Re: Half speed with Beyond

Thanks Kristen. I just sat and planned out the first 10 weeks - I am a bit of a planning freak - and decided to have him to Pics four days a wk, on the days we do the HOD activities, and then do copywork on the day we 'only' do math, spelling and reading, on his co-op day. So, we'll be going half sp...

Half speed with Beyond

Hi ladies, I need some help. I have looked back over the previous 'half speed' threads and received some good ideas. My ds is 6, just coming out of Christian school where he did Bob Jones K. I ordered Beyond, since I feel it is a better fit than LHFHS, however I know he won't be ready for Bigger nex...

Re: Kind of off-topic- Having more kids or not & homeschooling

I am going to plug for adoption. The process is long, challenging, expensive etc, but there are so many kids who need families. I was pregnant twice, both were hard, the second one all bed rest. Shudder. Due to severity of bad pregnancies, hubby went to see 'the Dr' when 2nd son was 3 months old, to...

Re: New to homeschooling and very excited

Thanks for all your warm welcomes and replies. Our box only took 3 days to arrive (minus a Sunday) which was super fast!!! As for the phonics recommendation, we are working through the second half of The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading this summer, so he gets the rest of the phonics he n...

New to homeschooling and very excited

Hi all, we just got our box today: I am doing Beyond with my 1st grade son. He did Bob Jones K at a private, Christian school last year, and it reading at a 2/3 grade lever, so I hoping I placed him correctly. We have been on a long journey towards keeping our boy home, and I now feel that to be an ...
