Can a gifted 12 year old handle WG
Can a gifted 12 year old do world geography? Looking to next year, daughter will be 12 turning 13 in the spring( she is currently 11). We have not been using HOD but a mix of many classical and CM material. She has finished Rod and Staff level 6 this month and is asking to go on to 7 b/c she loves E...

Preparing for end of 2nd grade for gifted student
Hi ladies, I have a 2nd and 4th grader who will finish Bigger in a couple of weeks. My 2nd grader will be 8 in May and is the most gifted out of my 7 kiddos. She loves to read and for example finished all of Grandma's Attic yesterday and most of Charolette's Web today, which is typical. She is also ...

Re: Ideas on Creating a HOD COOP Experience
I am working on doing this as well with a small group of families. Like you, I love HOD but am trying to find a way to add the accountability/social to our week. We are doing Beyond with our younger kids and some different options with the older kids. We are currently planning to do a light Spanish ...

Re: LHFHG for gifted 1st grader...not enough?
When we started homeschooling, advice we were given was to post the reasons up where we could refer back to them on a bad day. Education is one of those reasons, but others are to have a stronger family, more influence over our children and to provide them with a Christian education. I have six kids...

Re: scheduling 4 guides
Just a thought- you can combine storytime for Bigger and Beyond. Also, the hymns for a kid's heart are wonderful- but I am doing those one a week before family devotions as they can stand alone and don't really change the curriculum at all Also, don't forget your older kids can play with the younger...

Re: 5 kids, multiple guides...
Just to give my experience- it may not be yours. Last year I did Beyond with my 1st and 3rd grader. It was fine, but I constantly had to add reading- mostly historical fiction and we did Apologia Science. My 3rd grader did extra writing in co-op and speech class and in our curriculum and we also use...

Re: Schedule help
So I am going to bump this up for you, if not help:) I think you are right about the history reading. My other thought is maybe you want to purposely schedule some one on one time with your 2 olders. That way you could work on dictation, R&S while the other one plays with your babies. Then switch, d...

Re: Schedule help
I too am schooling the 4- with the surprise baby who is a miracle. I think your schedule sounds perfect. I like that the messy, hands on stuff is left for the end of the day when others are hopefully napping. One suggestion- for the older grades DITHOR is only scheduled for 3 days a week. I didn't r...

Re: HOW do you create a schedule? little overwhelmed here...
I don't have answers but I am just about to start the same guides and am trying very hard to come up with a schedule. One of the threads I saw said to write everything you need to do- each box on a separate post it note, then match them up to see what areas you could schedule at the same time, i.e. ...

When to start cursive?
I am doing bigger half speed with my second grader. We will probably progress to full speed by Christmastime- or at least that is my hope. She is a very artistic, left- hander. Handwriting has been no problem for her- she writes better than her 4th grade sister. My question is- should I start cursiv...

Re: real difference preparing and bigger with extensions?
Thank you so much for the wise advice. I really needed to hear that doing Bigger half speed would not be a disservice to my dd. I think she could use going really slow, focusing on skills and feeling sucessful. She also needs that one and one time with me so much. I appreciate everyone's input- what...

Re: real difference preparing and bigger with extensions?
Thank you so much for the input- it is very helpful! As I read the posts and am praying/thinking I am realizing what is concerning me is my 2nd grader. I have full confidence that my older can do Preparing and will be able to be independent. What concerns me is that the work of Bigger will be too mu...
