Thank you so much for clearing that up for me. I would have ordered the wrong level book package. I had no idea!

Re: Placement help 4th grader 9 1/2 yr.old
JennyMommy, I did peek at the next guide after Preparing. I feel that is a lot of writing! I may have to consider starting with Bigger. It's confusing when they fit half into one guide and half into another.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Re: Placement help 4th grader 9 1/2 yr.old
His birthday is March. 30th. He will be 10. Looking at the next guide, I am really questioning my decision. I have the HOD book list from the website. I usually pick books from that list. If he is not reading from that list, he is reading ABeka readers. I wouldn't say he enjoys reading. He is not th...

Re: Placement help 4th grader 9 1/2 yr.old
I think he could grow into the amount required for reading and writing. It would probably take more than a few weeks. If it is not uncommon to do this for the first month or so, I guess it may be possible. So I would do one side of the guide one day and the other side the next? Doing grammar and mat...

I could start half speed. Maybe I will start in July and see how it goes.
Thank you for your help!

Placement help 4th grader 9 1/2 yr.old
Hello. I was wondering if someone could confirm for me my placement decision. I have a child who will be 9 1/2 yrs. old going into 4th grade. He is reading 4th grade level books, but he likes to read in small doses (7 pages). I would not say he is a fast reader, but he does comprehend what he is rea...

Re: Need placement help for 6th grader
Thank you for the pictures. I do believe he can handle the reading. I always go over his assignments and find things that he missed in the directions. It is part of his personality! He is fast at everything he does, which leads to careless mistakes. Not sure if that will ever change! I do think he c...

Need placement help for 6th grader
Hello. We are thinking about coming back to HOD and need help with placement. We did Bigger back in 3rd grade. He will be entering 6th grade next school year (12 years old). He likes assignments that are short and to the point! Kind of a "get it done" kid. He is very hands on, and he loves to take t...

Re: phonics after 1st question/BLHFHG
Any thought on spelling for 2nd grade? I wanted to try HOD spelling but I know Abeka ties their spelling into their phonics lessons. I guess I could modify them. I was thinking of doing HOD English in Beyond instead of Abeka Language workbook.

Re: phonics after 1st question/BLHFHG
Thanks. I guess that's an area I don't want to "skimp" on. Even though I am sick of the repetitive charts, they work. As much as I would like to switch, I don't have the confidence to do so. Phonics is very important, and I do not want to have problems down the road. Thank you so much for your help....

phonics after 1st question/BLHFHG
Do you think I need to continue with Phonics instruction in 2nd grade with Abeka ? He has used Abeka K through 1st grade with success. Should I fill in with Explode the Code or The Reading Lesson? This is my first time teaching phonics, and I do not really know what to do for 2nd grade. Abeka is gre...

Beyone for 2nd grade quest.
Hello. My son is finishing up Abeka phonics/language/spelling first grade. I am using Little Hearts for everything else with first grade option for science. I am not sure what to do about spelling for 2nd grade using Beyond. He does not struggle with Abeka spelling 1. He is also reading beautifully ...

A child's history question
I do not like A Child's History of the World :( . It reads beautifully. I just am not in agreement with introducing some of the topics to my 9 year old. I do love how Carrie follows up each topic with focus on what the bible teaches. The discussion questions are spot on. :) We are so loving everythi...
