Re: 2 boys - same level guides for 8th grade / High School?
Thank you, Nealewill, for your helpful long reply. I really do appreciate your time and thoughts. In looking at the guides and their first week samples online, I am coming more and more to the conclusion, that I think my soon to be 9th grader may be able to handle the WG year just fine.....without t...

2 boys - same level guides for 8th grade / High School?
My family has been away from Heart of Dakota this last year for various reasons. I'm looking forward to getting back to it. My 9 year old daughter who has special learning challenges, I took out of HOD for a year to work on basic skills before she tackles Bigger for her fourth grade year. Having don...

Res. to Reformation extension package
I have a 10 year old who finds reading enjoyable and is reading more and more difficult material as time goes on. (He's read all the Narnia books, the Chuck Black Kingdom series books and the Viking Quest series among others) I THINK we may try Res. to Ref. this fall with him starting off at 1/2 spe...

Re: Writing in Res. to Ref.
That's interesting, Nancy, because that's sort of what I thought of and am feeling more at peace about it. That means that his years might be broken up with different guides as we go along, but nothing wrong with that. But doing the first 1/2 of CTC as written and perhaps using the extension reading...

Re: Writing in Res. to Ref.
He has worked through about 1/2 of Write with the Best. We are still working through that book, even now, but have not finished it..... (since I didn't start it until 1/2 way through our year) Was thinking of using "Igniting your Writing" that Carrie suggests to use (she has it listed with the DITHO...

Writing in Res. to Ref.
In the program placement chart for Res. to Ref. it says that child should be able to write an 8-12 sentence narration on own. My son meets all the other criteria for Res. to Ref. but not this one. Do you think he would do okay if we started out the year with him writing only 3-5 sentence narration, ...

Can MtMM be made high school worthy?
I'm sure this is addressed in here somewhere, but couldn't seem to find the links to help. My oldest son will not be ready for the World Geography guide for his freshman year. Rather he will only be ready for MtMM. Is there someplace that explains how I can make that guide "high school" worthy? (He'...

Re: Week in Review: October 14-18, 2013
This will be my first post in here, but wanted to share how appropriate LHFHG has been for my 6 year old daughter. She has sensory processing issues and is VERY active...but this week we have worked through last half of unit 8 and first half of unit 9. When she tried the marker/oil on saran wrap on ...

Re: Goddess Astarte and Fe Fi Fo Fum
I remember this in Preparing last year. It was so unusual it really stuck out. There are some references online about it if you search long and hard. I don't have time right now to search it, but know that I found something about Fe fi fo fum having something to do with ancient pagan god or gods....

Re: About HOD Science seeming "light"
Can't help but chime in here. I'm finishing up unit 8 right now in LHFHG with my daughter. I often have wondered if any of the science is "sticking" with her. Yesterday while playing with a big bouncy ball outside, she picked it up, held it over her head and started spinning. (We were just playing n...

Re: Our first week of Little Hearts
We're ALMOST finished week 2 in LHFHG. My girl seems to be doing well in it as well. Surprising enough reading about Reddy Fox is about her favorite and it doesn't even have pictures! Today, when we made the tin foil boats to float in the bathtub, her 5th and 6th grade brothers joined her as well. W...

Re: For when your child "gets stuck" while learning Phonics
I absolutely love this idea!
Think I'll use it for my girl too as she has her difficult days in "The Reading Lesson". I have a feeling she'll love seeing the horse gallop across the cardboard or paper or whatever I can think of to use..... Thanks for sharing!

Re: First official day of "school" with LHFHG
Okay, SolaAcademy and mshanson - I tried PM you and can't figure it out. I am so sorry. It would be nice to connect with another sensory mom.... My daughter is definitely a sensory "seeker" rather than a sensory "avoider". Shes into things all the time. So far in using LHFHG (which has only been for...

First official day of "school" with LHFHG
Just wanted to share with you all that today, we officially started school at our house.... 2 sons (in 5th and 6th grades) and my girl in first with LHFHG. She has special sensory needs but the boxes that Carrie provides are great. Was able to just do a little at a time with my little wiggle worm (i...
