Re: Kinda OT: I need help getting baby to sleep to do school!!!!

Just a couple of thoughts.... Firstly, I bought a playpen for my youngest. I bought it because we moved into a house with stairs and when she became mobile, I felt safer knowing that she could not make her way to the stairs if I was caught up doing something else. But it has now turned out very usef...

Question about DITHOR scheduling.

This is probably a dumb question, but I have to ask it anyway.... I have just received a copy of DITHOR and it seems that it is meant to be used every day so that each genre lasts 20 days. (I hope I have that right.) Why then do some of the guides only have it scheduled for 3 days a week? How does t...

Re: How do you combine?

I have two children using Bigger at the moment. We combine for history, science, Bible, poetry, music (hymns), history and art activities, and the storytime. Math, dictation, grammar, and reading is done separately. One of the girls does the history extension readings and writing too, so she does th...

Re: How do you help your child narrate when....

Hi Corrie, Something I have found useful when working with a child on developing narration skills is that *I* would start narrating, then I would stop part way through a sentence and let the child fill in a word or two. Then I would pick up the story line myself and continue for a bit more, with mor...

Re: If I used a guide a year.....

Well, I've flitted back and forth between HOD and MFW so my older children will end up missing the last guide. But the baby is only one so she'll get to do them all!  Yes, I'm with you on that one. I'm new to HOD and I was thinking that my 1 year old will get to do all the guides - lucky...

Re: Creation to Christ with 13yo, and another question.

Yes - we love to hear about each of your dc here at HOD! :D :D I think Jessica would do well with RevtoRev along with the Extension Package. It is definitely a meaty program - the poetry and primary source documents, along with the level of writing and reading selections come to mind as I think of ...

Re: Scheduling Question for Carrie

Thanks Carrie. :D

My 3 oldest are already very independent in their work which is great. I think I'll schedule meeting times with them after lunch/early afternoon while the younger kids play.

Thanks again.

Scheduling Question for Carrie

Hi Carrie, I have been looking through the threads on scheduling and I really like the way you have organised your schedule - thanks for sharing that. I was just wondering, though, when you manage to check the independent work done by your older children. It's easy enough to check the younger's work...

Re: Bigger w/extensions for a dc in 5th grade

Thanks ladies! Do you all use a different science for the olders? Just wondering.. In the Appendix there is an extension book for science as well, starting off with Planet Earth by John Tiner. The older child does this in addition to the scheduled science. I think that my dd does need this extra sc...

Re: Bigger w/extensions for a dc in 5th grade

I was thinking of using this with my 2nd grade dd as well as my 5th grade ds, who would also use the extensions. Besides the extra reading in the extensions what could be added to the history part of it to make it more on the level of 5th grade. I was thinking of having my dc do written narrations ...

Re: Creation to Christ with 13yo, and another question.

Hi Linda, I am using CTC with my 11 and 13 year old girls. We've only just started, and will take a break for the summer, but I believe it is a good fit. The 13 year old was slow to warm up to it, but I think it had more to do with not wanting to be combined with her younger sister than with a true...
