Re: Using HOD Preparing HFHG for History and Bible

We are doing PHFHG next year too, only for History, Bible, and Poetry( and maybe some art). My kids are taking math, science and English at an academy next year. They love HOD so I thought we'd try to stick with it and see how it goes. My kiddos will be 5th grade next year.

Re: DITHOR

Well I feel kind of silly that we've been using it wrong since last year  . I guess I kind of thought you could use it on a read aloud or independent reading. So if we're using DITHOR for independent reading, how do I know if they're answering the questions correctly? As parent, do you read the ...

DITHOR

I have been using DITHOR a couple times/wk but only with our read-alouds. Is it meant to only go along with their independent reading?

which guide to do next year

We did Beyond in 2nd grade with my twins, Sonlight in 3rd, and this year for 4th we returned to HOD and did Bigger. They turned 10 this past Jan. I like Bigger, but the spelling words are way too easy and some of the dictation is also. We've had to use Rod & Staff Spelling with it. I saw that Prepar...

Re: Anyone started a guide in the middle?

I wouldn't start in the middle. You could just ignore the math section and have her do one math lesson/day. You don't have to follow the math on the guide. My kids are doing Bigger now, and I have to do that with math and English because they are 10 and doing a level up on math & English compared to...

Selling curriculum

I noticed there's no curriculum for sale board. Is it forbidden? I'll be looking to buy Preparing soon, so I was just wondering!
Thanks

Writer's Express has exactly that, and you can get the handbooks cheap on eBay.

Proper way to do dictation??

I have a question about dictation. Are we supposed to let them study it, and then read the entire thing at once to the child or one line at a time? I had seen where Carrie said before to only read it once because they should memorize it. Before I saw that, I had been repeating the passage as needed ...

BHFHG and learning about States, Capital & Presidents

Does Bigger have a study involving learning states & capitals and US Presidents or do I need to add that on my own?

Re: 1st week of Bigger

Thanks! Haha we started at Unit 4 last week. We had already done Squanto etc, so I didn't want to do that again(we did Amer History all last year actually). Today the kids did painting with juices like William Penn, and they liked that too. :)
